I've not posted for a long time as I'd forgot my password lol
I ended up in A&E yesterday as I was in so much pain with my jaw joint waited 3 hours but hey ho at least I saw a really nice doctor well at the time of him moving my jaw about and opening and closing it he wasn't nice I had to apologise for swearing but he understood he ended up giving me a pain block as I'm allergic to all opium drugs not much hope for me lol
He asked if I'd got any other joint paint so I told him I have fibromyalgia oh right I see well TMJ is related thank god for that I said
So now I have to wait to see a consultant to try sort my poor face out
But I'm still smiling ish you have to stay positive

I have this too and ended up in A&E like you. I thought I had dislocated my jaw the pain was so bad. I saw a Maxillofacial consultant a few days after it had settled down and he said there was not a lot he could in my case. Sometimes the dentist will make a plate you put over your back teeth to stop the grinding, especially at night, but as I don't have any bottom back teeth that would not work for me.
I was told I could have Botox injections which would give some relief but I don't really fancy that.
Funnily enough it was at the next rheumatology appointment when the doctor read my notes on TMJD and decided to check me for fibro, as there is such a big connection. That is when I had my diagnosis.
My TMJD flares up from time to time and I have found a covered hot water bottle held against the side of the head and eating soft foods really help. It tends to lessen over a few days, but I have noticed it is worse if I am stressed.
Yeah I hold a bottle over jaw and it helps A little it's so draining I will be glad when I go see consultant at least I might get a few options I hope but was told not a lot can do just have put up with it eat soup for a couple of weeks my partner said I'll need a new wardrobe after
I am so genuinely sorry to read this and I sincerely hope that you are feeling better now. I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck, and please take care of yourself.
I will be fine when I've seen a consultant I have to eat soup for 2 weeks to help my jaw so I'm not chewing I won't want to see a can of soup again by the end of 2 weeks but hey ho needs must as they say.
It is very painful and sore but seen as I'm allergic to so many painkillers it's abit hard for them to help me
