Anyone tried . . . . ?

Hi

Has anyone had any experience (and preferably success!) with any of the following 'recovery' programmes out there?

Chrysalis Effect, Mikel Therapy, Dan Neuffer CFS Unravelled, SIRPA etc, etc

They all involve a lot of expense but I would like to hear of any first-hand experience. I'm also guessing that this may be a 'silly question' on here as if anyone has recovered they wouldn't still be trawling through a forum like this one!

I hold my hands up and admit that I have never heard of any of those therapies. It's so sad that people are happy to make money from others distress, so please be careful if you do try any 🐸

Hello Glosgran

I am sorry, but I have never heard of any of these terms before.

Apologies I can not be of any help.

I have heard of Dan Neuffer CFS unravelled. But I haven't tried it out.

I also have never heard of any of these therapies, although Mikel therapy rings a bell. I may have looked into it. I certainly have never tried, or know of anyone with Fibro who has tried these.

I would be very careful before parting with money, as there are many people out there making claims to "cures".

If you really want to part with some money, I could recommend Hydrotherapy, Chiropractic Therapy, Acupuncture, Physiotherapy. These Therapies have been known for some people with Fibro, to have a measure of success.

Take care.

GP. 😊😊

Hello, I undertook several sessions of Mikel therapy about 10 years ago.... it is basically a "talking therapy", which teaches you to adjust to living your life in a different way, to learn when you are doing too much, and learn to say NO when others expect too much from you.

It is important to realise It is NOT a cure, but a way of learning to manage and pace yourself on a day-to-day basis, in order to keep your symptoms to a minimum. You also need to be a very strong and positive person in order to make it work for you, and I am still able to use the principles I learned every day. Basically it is about learning how to live your life on your own terms (which may sound a bit selfish) but I was certainly very guilty of putting everyone else first and I was always back of the queue!

I was given certain "keys" to put into practice every day.... which involves creating clear boundaries around unfair or ill treatment by others and meeting my own needs first.

At the time, I was virtually bed bound on constant pain killers, but now I have managed to get to the stage of rarely taking pain killers, and taking gentle exercise (tiredness is causing me issues at present).

Basically you are supported to take your life in a more manageable direction, but you have to make this your new lifestyle.

If you have any other questions about it I am happy to try and answer them.... it is quite expensive, but it has meant that I have had a much better quality of life for the last 10 years.

Sorry I haven't heard of the other therapies.

Good luck if you decide to try any of them xxx

Forgot to say I do find Reflexology very helpful, but unfortunately that is also quite expensive xxx

I haven't come across any of these, I do think we can become vulnerable due to desperation to try anything, I can only say that if I came up with a cure for anything I would share it freely, proceed with caution xx

Thanks for all the encouraging comments. This condition can certainly be a drain on resources. I don't think I'll bother exploring talking therapies any further as I've learnt about managing the condition by prioritising, planning & pacing and also to use gentle exercise and muscle stretches - all for free on a Pain Management course at my local hospital, thanks to the good old NHS! Maybe I have all the 'golden' keys already at my disposal and I just need to remember to use them more consistently and continually.

I,m always a cowardy custard at trying anything not prescribed! I would hope if this therapy was as good as it sounds it would be displayed in surgeries, clinics, therapy outlets etc..... I agree with Greenpeace member go for tried and trusted therapies until those in the know advise differently.

Hi Glosgran

I have undergone several sessions of Mikel Therapy which I did not find useful to be honest. However, I also undertook a Mindfulness Course, which I thought was very good especially the relaxation techniques.

I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck if you decide to give any of these a go.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Ken
