Hi everyone,

I haven't been on here long but I'm really loving the group, everyone is really helpful.

My question is... I was diagnosed with viral myalgia in my 20s by my GP. When it didn't get any better and I was in a lot of pain... And actually slept for 2 weeks and only work up for meals! They said the viral myalgia had led to fibromyalgia, they didn't really give me any info as to how that happened, just pain relief.

Did this happen to anyone else???

Any info would be great fully received! 😊

Hi

I'm sorry to say that I've never heard of what you suffered from before.

I was told by Drs and consultants that many things can cause you to get fibro, maybe that is one of them?

Have you googled it or read up on fibro symptoms etc?

I think your best tool when trying to deal with Drs etc is research.

Good luck and I hope that you are as well as you can be today.

Best wishes 🌺

I have to say that this never happened to me, one morning I just woke up and physically couldn't get out of bed. I was so scared, I didn't know what was happening to me. What I will say is my Fibro worsens when I have my annual flu jab, and when I say worsens, it becomes agonising. I did some research and found other people have found this to be the case with them also.

I am sorry that it ended with you having this horrible condition,

My fibro started after the trauma of falling into the canal, coming up under a flat bottom boat and thinking my time had come.

I believe fibro can begin for a lot of reasons. I have a friend who had a virus that led to her being paralysed from the waist down, so I just think I am the luckier of the two.

Thanks guys for your comments, thankfully I didn't have an injury which led to Fibromyalgia.. There was no explanation at all.

The only evidence I managed to find the answer was this;

Viral Myalgia: Myalgia simply means β€œmuscle pain”. It is a symptom of a large number of diseases. But, it is mainly caused by injury, overstretching or overuse of muscle or its group. If myalgia happens without a history of trauma then a viral infection could be a probable cause and this is called Viral Myalgia.

There are many symptoms of any myalgia – especially viral myalgia. The most prominent is pain in the muscle that is affected and almost any muscle group can be involved. Viral myalgia involving the chest or heart muscle can cause pains in the chest as well as an irregular heartbeat or a rapid heartbeat. If the muscles of the respiratory system are involved – that too can cause chest pain, or problems with breathing. Other common symptoms of viral myalgia include burning skin, numbness or tingling sensation in the arms, face, legs or trunk.

Common cause of myalgia is usually stress or tension in the affected muscle developing as a result of the virus. The individual with viral myalgia often overuse their muscles. Myalgia is a symptom of a large number of diseases and disorders with a large number of them being caused by viruses.

Viruses that may cause viral myalgia include HIV, Epstein-Barr, influenza as well as diseases of the connective tissues which include autoimmune disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, fibromyalgia and polymyalgia. Myalgia may be linked with the muscle movements that are involuntary caused by central nervous system disorders such as multiple sclerosis, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, as well as spinal cord injuries

I have just been looking up viral myalgia and it reminded me that for many years if anyone or everyone around me comes down with a virus i dont get it. instead i get muscle pains and pain in my breast bone and the bones that go out from your throat to shoulder.

I still do. i have had a slight cold earlier this year but i think the one before that was about 6yrs ago.

I still get extra muscle pain instead.

I'm exactly the same! Thanks for your reply 😊

From the age of 7 i had many emotional and physical traumas.

From the death of my mom to a brain heamourage (never could spell)

Pneumonia and a trachiotomy to a mild stroke.

Any one of them could have been the trigger but in my case it was more likely that each played its part like fitting the pieces into a jigsaw.

I gradualy built up symptoms over the years without knowing why. I even spent months in hospital while the doctors tried to find out why a mild virus had caused multiple organ failure plus other symptoms that i now recognise as fibro.

Fibro plus virus not good.

I was finally diagnosed when i had a major flair that took 2 yrs to wear off. but again i did not quite recover and was left unable to walk more than a few steps without stopping for a breather as well as all the usual pain,ibs,rsl,ect.ect.

I am not too bad right now, i love the warm weather and can function but as soon as it turns cold thats when i suffer most.

Sue.

Hi Lisawt80

I am so genuinely sorry to read this my friend and I sincerely hope that you have good medications and other medical support. I have never come across Viral myalgia leading to Fibromyalgia before but this does not mean it does not happen.

I have pasted below the *Wikki definition. If you add some kind of trauma then I guess that Fibro can easily be the end result?

*Myalgia, or muscle pain, is a symptom of many diseases and disorders. The most common causes are the overuse or over-stretching of a muscle or group of muscles. Myalgia without a traumatic history is often due to viral infections.

I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck, and please take care of yourself.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Ken

Yes unfortunately it happened to me a few months ago I have rheumatoid arthritis which is an auto immune disease when I saw my specialist he said you have fibromyalgia and gave me a booklet to go away to read. ..i felt relived for the diagnosis bcos I thought I was going mad with the brain fog ect.But I had nothing explained to me or told where to go from here. .I'm so sorry it happened to you as believe me I know how you feel. I started Google to find out more and thankfully came across this fantastic forum soft hugs lisaw80 x

Thank you for your reply, I think it's really bad that GP's don't really know much about it and we have to resort to our own findings... At least you had a booklet, I had nothing!

Hope your well, best wishes X
