I have just been diagnosed with fibro in November but I'm sure I grew up with it. I'm 're now but my ankles and knees would click and I would fall if i tried to run or go upstairs. At 18 I asked my doctor for a scon on my back as I though I had lung cancer as the pain was so bad. I have just been prescribed gabapentin but they don't work. Does anyone know what works. I get no sleep and cry most days with depression. I can't get out and about as my ankles keep giving up on me and I'm on the ground. My friend gave me dehidrcodine and it seemed to work. Does anyone else get them ?

Hi

If gabapentin is not working for you go back and see your gp try someting else? Ive been given amytriptaline and that kinda helped but i refused to take so much mediactaion ive now been given patches which im yet to try... Please please do not take medication which is not prescribed for you... It can cause all sorts of health risks for you.. Ask your gp to refer you to a chronic pains clinic.. Wish you all the best xxx

Welcome to the site I am with Ouch_123 on no taking meds. prescribed for other people as all our bodies are individual and what suits one does not suit another. Have you had a chance to have a look at our mother site Fibromyalgia Action UK as it has a whole section on fibro symptoms and treatments which might open a pathway to discussing treatments with your doctor. There are also other links on the right hand d side of your screen.

Do x us know how you get on on the 12 th. I know it seems a long time in the future when you are in pain but hang on in there girl. Try and get as much rest as you can and eat sensibly as all this can help. Take care.

Welcome to the forum :)

As you are fairly newly diagnosed, you may like to have a look at our mother site for more information on Fibromyalgia fmauk.org

It is very dangerous to take other people's prescribed medication, as you never know what effect it may have on you.

You can buy Paramol over the counter. This is paracetamol and dihydrocodeine. It may be worth you buying some and trying it.

Were you diagnosed by a Rheumatologist? They usually prescribe Amitryptyline to start with as it helps with sleep, pain and low mood.

As Fibro is tailor made to each person, so is the medication that is required. It is unfortunately very much a case of trial and error to find out what works for you.

You can ask your GP to refer you to a Pain Management Clinic. These Clinics help sufferers to learn how to cope with their pain.

Wishing you less pain and more peace

Please keep going to your dr and see a rheumatoid consultant as they can give you stronger meds for it. Just keep trying the different ones until you find one that helps you.

Are you on antidepressants to help with your mood? If yes, ask to change if not helping or if no ask for some.

Most of us are on antidepressant to help cope with the constant pain and lack of sleep.

I was told that fibro sufferers can be low in vit d and magnesium, so I take these supplements. I also take hemp tablets from Amazon, as they are supposed to have chemicals in that marijuana has in it, which some countries allow for treatment of fibro. Hemp is legal in this country and you can get a it in tab or inhaler, I feel it helps me relax at night. I use hot water bottles and Volterol gel. I also take herbal sleeping tabs and listen to audio books in bed, so I don't get frustrated, worry, bored and lonely.

I don't know if any of this will help you, but please don't give up. Try to do what you can and then rest, they call it pacing yourself. Unfortunately, we all just have to readjust our lives to live with fibro. During our good phases we can do more and during our bad phases we just have to try to rest and ride it out.

Good luck and best wishes. 😊💐

Thanks for your reply. I'm on 100mg of sertraline and 1800mg of gabapentin. I was on amatriptaline but nothing seems to work. I will look into the hemp and hopefully find some sort of pain relief soon . Thanks xx

Hi cheerichick

I sincerely hope that you are feeling as well as you possibly can be today? Welcome to the forum and it is wonderful to make your acquaintance. I am so genuinely sorry to read that you are suffering and struggling with your Fibro and I sincerely hope that you can find some resolution and relief to your pain issues.

I take a similar drug to Gabapentin and it is called Pregabalin. It is the next drug up the ladder and in my experience a much better drug but it does have a reputation of making users gain weight! I have noticed that a member mentioned Amitriptyline to you and this is quite a standard treatment for Fibro, but it does contain a sedative. If you cannot get on with sedatives, you could ask you doctor about its sister drug called Nortriptyline as this does not have the sedative component.

If you found that the Dihydrocodeine helped you a little, you could discuss some kind of Codeine treatment with your doctor also? I take Cocodamol and I personally find them quite effective for my pain. The only problem with Codeine is that it can become addictive if you take it for prolonged periods of time.

I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck and with your appointment with your doctor on the 12th, and please take care of yourself.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Ken
