How long have you been taking it?
Everybody is different and some drugs can take a number of weeks before you to start noticing the benefits. I don't take Lyrica/Pregabalin myself as it is an anti-convulsant and could interfere with my current epilepsy medication. Have you also been prescribed pain meds as well?
Hello I've been taking lyrica since 14th April 2016 before that was on amiltryptolene that was no good either. No can't take many pain Meds as that interferes with my esophagus/stomach i have Gord and take lots of Meds fit that too.π I am also on antidepressants.
I would have thought that they would have started working already so it may be worth going back to Doc and letting them know you aren't getting any benefit from them so far.
I have also have stomach problems with some meds, I've lost count of the ones I've tried. I'm finding Co-codamol 30/500 and Dihydrocodiene helpful. As well as painkillers I also take Diazepam and Baclofen for muscle spasms.
I couldn't take amitryptilene either. I have since refused anti-depressants - tried to tell me I was depressed due to the pain but I told them I was feeling down due to the pain!
Hi Thunder1 , and welcome to our forum.
Fibro has many different symptoms and we are all affected with them in different ways. It's the same with Medication, we are all different and what works for one can make someone else very ill. The thing is, there is no medication that is going to take your pain away completely. You have to work with your Dr to find a mixture of meds, treatments and therapies, that work for you. Also a lot of the meds that, are used for Fibro have to be taken for weeks before you start to feel the benefit (or not), and to get rid of the side effects (or not) before you find one that suits you.
I don't know if you have been given a referral to see a Rheumatologist, who is a Consultant who deals with Fibro, along with other joint and muscular conditions. They are more knowledgable about the meds used for Fibro, and also they can refer you for Physio, and Hydrotherapy, and other treatments. You can also ask for a referral to a Pain Clinic or Pain Management Course. You can ask your GP for a referral.
If you would like to have a look at our mother site, fmauk.org. you will finds lots of good info on there.
I hope you soon find something effective to deal with your pain, as it does drag you down, and makes you wonder if you'll ever come right.
Good luck.
GP. ππ
Hi Thunder1
I sincerely hope that you are feeling as well as you possibly can be today? Welcome to the forum and it is wonderful to make your acquaintance.
I am so gneuinely sorry to read that your Lyrica isn't helping you too much, and as you have said it can be increased. You could also discuss adding supplemental medications with your doctor, as there are other drugs that you could have to go along with your Lyrica. Amitriptyline / Nortriptyline comes to mind, as well as out-and-out pain medications such as cocodamol? It is always worth talking to your doctor about them.
I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck, and please take care of yourself.
All my hopes and dreams for you
Ken
Thank you in a lot of pain today but hopefully I will get there is will be taking everyone's advice. Yes I was referred to a rhematologist now she says if I want to see her again I can arrange any time. Currently seeing a phsycologist.
Welcome. I am a newbie too and getting my head around the site. This site is soo very supportive, and helpful which I am sure you will discover. You find you cant believe soo many people suffer from this dreadful silent disease, but keep posting to learn all you can. xx
Lyrical does always work. Unfortunately getting to Meds right is a bit trail and error with fibromyalgia. Some find what ever they take doesn't work! But keeping your dr involved while finding out every thing you can about fibromyalgia. Personally I find reducing stress and rest are the only thing that reduce pain levels. It's worth also checking if your are low in vitamin d, as it can go hand in hand with fibromyalgia. Gentle hugs.
I take lyrica and amyltriptiline. Together they work for me. I also take co codamol and transform for pain and I also have gerd if that helps
