Hi there

One of the side effects of Gabapentin is weight gain. However, that doesn't necessarily mean that everyone who takes this med will gain weight.

Wishing you less pain and more peace

Hi

I can assure you that that foggy feeling will go away. If you take the tablets regularly that side effect does wear off although it does take a couple of weeks.

If you can try to stick with it, it is a good medication for Fibro.

I know it is unfortunate to have to decide on unwanted weight gain or pain relief. It depends how well the Gabapentin works for you I guess.

Wishing you all the very best

Pregabelin and Gabapentine are also appetite enhancers, so you eat more to feel full, hence the weight gain. Theoretically , if it is working to ease the pain then the relief you get should enable you to move around more easily and maintain your normal weight.

Unfortunately because of the side effects of sleepiness, foggy brain and listlessness sometimes you can't really feel bothered to move about more.

Neither medication worked for me but a lot of people on this forum swear by the relief they get from taking them. Only you can decide if it works for you.

I take the sister drug Pregablin and quite a few have complained of weight gain. I am just two pounds heavier but I am relatively inactive whereas I was extremely active before getting fibro . I make sure any snacks are low fat, fill myself up with salad and fruit and do as much exercise as fatigue and pain allows. Good luck with it.x

I used to take pregabalin. I seemed to be forever on a 'see food diet'. I am now taking gabapentin instead. The weight gain has been far less with this drug. I am still trying to lose weight from when I was taking pregabalin!

I hope you find something that helps ease your pain.

Just remembered, I take XLS medical max strength, I have found these helpful (fat binder, bought from Amazon)

Hi HArv8y14

I sincerely hope that you are feeling as well as you possibly can be today? As your other respondents have intimated, both Gabapentin and Pregabalin can increase you weight but it does not do this to everyone. I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck, and please take care of yourself.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Ken

Yes! Me, me, me! I started Gabepentin almost 2 years ago and in 2 weeks went up a dress size. And haven't been able to lose it (yet)!

I was lucky and didn't gain weight with the gabapentin. However have just had steroid injections and my appetite has gone through the roof.
