Hi, I seemed to have put on a stone and I think it's a mixture for me. Not being very active due to pain and fatigue, I find I just feel hungry all the time and for the wrong foods (sweet tooth) I'm putting that down to hormones also medication 🙁 It's sh***y [Edited by Admin] I know 😡

Hi, Yes I have, it is a combination of lack of exercise, medication and eating too much.

Today I have been to my first Seniors swimming session as an attempt to do something about it. Trouble is I have worked up an appetite! ;)

HI Ward, I am always fighting with my weight, feel like I have been on a diet at least every Monday for the last 30+ years. I think Gabapentin can be a culprit, its difficult to manage the pain and keep weight off. I bought Davina's "sugar free in a hurry" just recently and am hoping to find some good recipes. I will let you know if I find anything nice x

What a shame are you on them long term

in reply to Ward

I have been currently on them for around 18 months and have been told that I may stay on them forever. I have R.A and it helps me function better, it's a low dose but each time I try to reduce dose I end up having to go back to original dose.

Hi , I have over the years but I have asthma and another lung condition take a lot of steroids as well, I only thought about some of my fibro medication when I read someone who had put weight on with gabpendtin which I have taken for years gradually increased to max dose ,

I spoke to doctor who said that all medication effects each individual differently , and I just had to weigh up the benefits of the medication and the medication wins I can breath with the steroids and have a fairly good quality of life with the medication but without it , i probably would be thinner but in a box.

I do eat a lot more as stopped smoking, not very active , board especially when I can't sleep i eat , over the years I have doubled in size ,

I'm trying to cut down on various foods just now swapped my crisps for fruit but I sometimes think I have given up so much over the years that I need some treats. Lol

Good luck Loraine x

Hi Ward yes I have definitely gained weight. A lot of the medication given for fibromyalgia increase your appetite. I have battled with my weight for many years now and i think a lot of people with fibro are probably the same. Inactivity is definitely another major problem with weight gain. We aren't walking briskly, we can't run up & down stairs and if your like me, you spend most of your time in bed. So none of that is going to help the situation. They need to invent an excersizer that can be used from your bed lol they'd make a fortune lol..

Hello. I come from a stand point of fear of medication. The more I experience myself, and hear too from others, the worse this fear gets. My friend was put on Pregabalin and ballooned. Weight super hard to shift. Became very depressed, and worse, after persisting with side effects, the drug did not help with pain at all. And then awful side effects coming off the drug too! Ouchy!! I have heard others say the same. Folks need to keep their thinking heads on when taking medication. There is no cure or magic bullet, for our condition, just busy drs trying to help desperate people. My pain dr said I was lucky getting side effects as as a result I am not hooked on a whole raft of useless medication. His opinion was, that after the first 3-6 months, most medication becomes ineffective. The body adapts. Most patients dont think so because they experience dreadful side effects trying to get off drugs assume they drug is working and their condition has worsened, and therefore carry on taking them. They may not be addicted as in times gone by, but really, they are hooked! We do need to be really sure any drug is worth the damage it will be doing to our bodies.

Hi yes i no where your coming from we all get a bit worried starting new meds. and the side effects that comes with them. I am going to start dieting and see if i can shift the weight going to be hard

Al10 profile image

Good luck with the dieting. Keep it healthy, something you can live with because if the drugs are causing weight-gain for you, which they do for some, you will need to be dieting long term. Yuck! I wish drs would explain to folks about drugs causing weight gain. I think folks are supposed to suck it up because the benefits of the drugs out weight any vain worries about weight and they can always eat less. Obesity is so frowned upon these days and it's unfair that many of these people are taking medication that actually changes how their bodies metabolise their food. When they do the slimming progs I shout at the tv telling the Professionals to ask about medication. And the benefits progs too, the sick and disabled are all unfit and fat and thus we are encouraged to think, indulgent and lazy not that their bodies are changed through the meds they are taking!

Ward profile image
Ward in reply to Al10

So so true l laughed to myself when you said the word fat .lol we arnt told enough about medication were taking then we all wonder why our waistlines are getting bigger

Al10 profile image
Al10 in reply to Ward

Oh goodness is fat a bad word these days? Oops! Obese doesn't really work now does it? Trouble is everyone is an expert these days on FMS. That's what all the jolly Benefits Britain folks have isn't it? Dont we just need telling to get up off our arses, (fat or otherwise) and get working? Another round of CBT anyone?

Ward profile image
Ward in reply to Al10

It just made me chuckle😂 The word fat is fine your right people dont want to exercise. Or just cant be bothered then they moan about there weight i find exercising hard but i will give a go👍

Not that lucky, I'm 92lbs. I take lyrica, cymbalta, indomethacin (anti inflammatory), and low dose cannibus pills for sleep. None of them really work for me anymore. I'm going to a sleep study soon. Hopefully they can help me!!

Ward profile image
Ward in reply to Samhartha
