Have you discussed this with your doctor and had a physical exam with both a doctor and a physiotherapist?

I get pins and needles most days in my feet and/or hands. Irrespective of what I'm doing - asleep or awake. If I then get cold, this will lead to severe cramp in toes, feet, up my shins, fingers, hands. If I don't move quickly (which is often impossible) the cramps will advance into my thighs, buttocks and upper arms. This then leaves me in intense pain and discomfort for the rest of the day

Seeing as so many people with FM have this symptom it is possible, but you should be checked for a trapped nerve or something anyway.

I wake with pins and needles sometimes in both hands, but lay on my back. I think as I have raised shoulders to help with reflux and damage from pluerisy, it may be how I am lying that causes it. However to test it I find laying on my left side a bit causes my right hand to be worse and vice versa.

Its not nice is it? I have to shake my arms to regain the right feeling and get circulation going properly. Its mostly in my ring fingers and little fingers mostly. I have been checked out and they cannot find anything so its been added to my FM list.

However, you may have some damage or blockage that is causing yours so make sure you do get checked out as just because we are all experiencing similar things does not mean we all have the same cause.

Look after yourself and I hope it is another cause that can be sorted for you.

Soft hugs

Hi...i wake every morning with dead hands and they using tingle and get the pins & needles sensation before they "come back to life". Sometimes my arm is dead too as i sleep with my arms under my head. Occasionally i get dead fingers too, usually the last 3 fingers on my hand...this comes and goes, along with the tingling sensation. I aslo get the feeling of "spongy" hands...like my hands feels slightly numb and swollen but they're actually not swollen at all...weird.

Hope it helps x

Sarah-Jane, pins and needles in ring and little fingers could be a problem with the ulna nerve, please see your GP and get a referral to the orthopaedic dept at hospital. I've got this problem and am seeing them next week.

Please don't get fobbed off with 'it's part of fibro' with things like pins and needles in your hands and arms. I wouldn't want to lose the use of my hands by leaving it too long to get them looked at.

Hello all. I've had this for many many years. Tingling, swelling, numbness in hands , fingers etc. Comes and goes. Most recently, my arms started going off, pain swapping from arm to arm.. deep pain. Then, it stayed in my right arm. It was so bad I cried. Couldn't do anything with it. Its been about 2 weeks now, and I still have a bit of pain, but can use it again. Its getting better very slowly. I could not get to the doc, but will be in a few days time. My neck and shoulder is also bad. But, my arm has got heaps better, i think because i rested it, and my partner massaged it at least once a day.

I have also experienced times where I would wake up with my arms pinging with so much pain i would be nearly screaming. Felt like they weren't even mine! Hands would swell too. I guess, because i have had this happen on and off for 25 years, I have attributed it to the fibro. I have TN (Trigenmenial nerve pain) not sure of spelling sorry, which can apparently run down the neck to the shoulders etc too... ahhhh.. its all connected of course.

I now question more about the symptoms and connecting illnesses. For example... if one did not have Fibro, would one be less inclined to have overlapping illness? I now tend to believe one wouldn't. After many years of observation and trial and error, I honestly think this is now the case. I think Fibro opens us up to many other debilitating illnesses. Its all connected. Just my opinion of course, i'm no doctor, but, i have to say, with this illness, I do think it's highly probable.

Wish you all better days ahead
