Does the pain ever go ? I am on alot of pain meds but no matter how many I take I can always feel some pain somewhere in my body. Is this the same for others ? Can you ever get to the point where you can say 'hey I am not in pain' ?

Sorry yo hear you always have but I think your probably not alone.I take very strong pain killers because of other issues as well and I'm not pain free but most days I'm content. You may speak with GP if it's that bad to increase or change meds.Just a thought.Good luckPeck

Hi Tishie ,

I'm so sorry that you are struggling with your pain levels.

I don't know how much you know about Fibro, or what you've been offered by way of management.

To be brutally honest, Fibromyalgia is managed, not cured.  The pain of Fibro never truly goes away completely no matter how many pain killers we take. Everyone is different, therefore what works for one doesn't always work for another.

There are other therapies that can be used alongside our meds which help.  Hydrotherapy, Acupuncture, Physiotherapy, Talking Therapies (CBT).  Also some people find that hot pads, Tens machines, hot and cold creams massaged into the muscles, hot baths with Epsom salts added to them.  The secret is finding what works for you.

Some people are referred to Pain Mangement Courses, and Pain Clinics.

My advice to you would be to look at our mother site at fmauk.org where you will find out about how to manage your Fibro. It also covers lots of other topics, and we have our own Benefits Advisor.

I hope I haven't spoiled your Sunday, but if you can manage to pace yourself, and not do too much at a time, that will also help your pain levels.

Take care.

GP. 😊

I am the same as Peck. I am on very strong painkillers. I am still in pain but can cope most of the time. There are things you can do during the day that provide some relief. My hot water bottle for the small of my back helps me. Other things that work are hot showers, my acupressure mat, a lay down (although this doesn't happen very often!)

Hi Tishie reading your post was like reading something I'd write, 7 years I have fibro and I've yet to have a pain free day infact I'd worry if I was pain free lol...... What I wouldn't give for just one day with no pain it woul be fantastic!

I've tried hydrotherapy infact am currently in the middle of a course and physio, accupuncture, massage, reflexology, you name it I've tried it for some relief alas it lasts for an hour or two then back to square one!

If you find the secret to no pain please share, I wish you well in your quest xx

Hi Tishie

Greenpeace  has pretty much summed up Fibromyalgia.

Everyone suffers to a different degree, and Fibro is tailor made to each person.

Some have pain 24/7 and others only have bad pain ocassionally.

I have had Fibro, Chronic Fatigue plus other chronic conditions for 34 years. I honestly cannot remember a day when I have not had seriously bad pain. I am also on a lot of strong painkillers.

As has been said, it is sadly a case of managing your conditon as best you can.

If you have not been referred for any of the treatments already mentioned why not ask for a referral to a Pain Management Clinic?  That would be a really good way forward.

Wishing you less pain and more peace

Lu xx

I am sorry you are suffering so much but be reassured you are not alone out there.  Many of us, including me always have pain either all over or in specific places.  I always have a dull ache everywhere and then other more difficult to deal with pain that seems to decide to appear randomly all over my body.  The stiffness and fatigue is another couple of things that don't help coping with it.  I lie there in the morning wondering which part of the body is going to have the full treatment that day.

Do try some of the alternative treatments such as hydrothereapy, acupuncture or change in diet as you never know one of them might be the one to help you as we are all different. I am still praying that they will come up with a magic pill for us but until them we just have to somehow hang in there.  Take care.x

Hi Tishie

I sincerely hope that you are feeling as well as you possibly can be today?

As the others have said ti is managed not cured, so it is difficult to really answer you question as we all react differently to the level of pain that we are suffering and the helpfulness of our medical experts. I want to genuinely wish you all the best of luck.

All my hopes and dreams for you

No pain free days here but on the bright side while ever you feel the pain you know your alive. Unlike most of the other replies I manage on paracetamol and grin and bare it as I don't tolerate pain meds well n am terrified of the I can't breath allergic reaction but pain is constant for us all a reminder that we are special xxxxxxxx
