I've just started these a week ago for Endometriosis. I've noticed I'm sleeping heavier and I'm not feeling the benefit, I feel exhausted xx

I haven;t been on that particular one but tried two others.  One gave me what I can only describe as waking nightmares and they were really scary I was having very strange thoughts.   I also felt really spaced out so after about 6 weeks of these symptoms not improving came off the drug.  A friend says he has just come off the drug even though it was helping with the pain as he was having similar experiences.  It could be a change in he dosage might alleviate these symptoms so I would certainly have a word with your doctor. (sorry about the italics I have hit something on the keyboard and can't get normal type back).x

Hi, I have been taking this for about four months now. I was prescribed this for fibro. and depression.

I also get some strange dreams and I still have disturbed sleep. I still have aches but no real pain in joints so Im not sure if it is helping with that.

Take care.

Hi Jesee,

I have been taking 50mgs of Amitriptyline for about 4yrs and I get a good 6hrs sleep.  I take them along with 50mgs Tramadol, and 1000mgs Paracetamol about 10.30 pm. and go to bed around 12.30 am and get up at 7 am.  I find I have a good quality of sleep, but they don't do much for the pain.  When I first started talking them I used to take them a lot earlier as I used to still be drowsy the next day, but gradually that wore off so I started to take them later.  I found that the only side effect was a dry mouth.  I never had bad dreams or anything like that.

The Rheumatologist told me that if you suffer from Depression as well as Fibro, then you take above 75 mgs, if you don't have Depression then 75mgs and below.  She said to start with 10mgs and gradually work up until you got the desired effect.

As I'm sure you know, everyone reacts differently to medication, and also people get no side effects, while others get them all.  It also depends on the interaction of other meds that we might be taking.

if you find that they are helping you other that the occasional bad dream, it might be worth putting up with it.  Also are you quite sure that it is the Amitriptyline that is causing your bad dreams?

I truly hope that you get to the bottom of what is giving you the bad dreams so that you can hopefully get a decent sleep. 💤 💤

Take care.

GP. 🙂🙂

I cannot take Amitriptyline as it is one of those medications that does not agree with me. I am on it's sister drug, Nortriptyline. If this problem continues it may be beneficial to discuss it with your GP to ascertain their opinion of it? I want to genuinely wish you all the best of luck. Please take care of yourself.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Ken

Yes I was on this medication and some of the dreams I had were so real and vivid I started to get a bit scared. They would frighten me for some of the next day as they were so real.at it's worst I was finding it difficult to separate dreams from reality. I stopped after a few months as I was starting to get scared of going to bed. I was taking it for added pain relief but wasn't helping with that either.sending best wishes.  Dawn xx

Yes I do for fibromyalgia, I too have really vivid dreams, mostly good ones but have had a few realistic terrifying nightmares too wher I wake in a really heavy sweat and are too frightened to go back to sleep, I do sympathise with you but unfortunately cannot recommend any advice.  Sweet dreams xx

I've been taking 40 mgs as well as Tramadol, flurexetne, a new painkiller that I can't remember the name of, but instead of Naproxim, these are all forFibro. I don't getanydreams, at least if I do I don't remember them. Can't say I get a good nights sleep, as I still get pain in my feet, legs and hips, which wakes me!, But much better with than without.

l was prescribed them years ago, following diagnoses of intersticial cystitus, which l,d also got depressed, so was prescribed 50mg, l did get some sleep for first time in a while, but it was a strange disturbed sleep, the urologist told me they were initially for depression but were found to help with i.c, bein theyre nerve end calmers, also they reduce urine output, giving inflamed bladder a break, but he said that just l0mg achieves that, l did take them on and off at l0mg for quite a long time, sometimes just took half a pill, l think they did help a bit, but dont take them much now, if lve not slept well for days or the bladder feels aggrevated might take 5mg for a couple of nights.  l sort of recall at higher dose they did give me vivid dreams and hangover in morning.  Now l dont take them l still get strange dreams and wake up with hangover, thats more me and health probs. l think worth trying low dose to see if they help.

Yes!! I started taking a very low dose of 10mg. I only took it for 1 week and I missed one of the doses. I had horrible vivid nightmares all 6 nights I took it. The one night I missed it I didn't even remember my dream. So I stopped. I take it for fibro/nerve pain. I was starting on a low dose but I stopped it and see my doctor next week to discuss other options. I had tried lyrica, cymbalta and gabapentin. The only thing that helped the pain was the gab but it made me have depression. Glad I found your post. I was googling if anyone had similar situations. Side note as a child I did suffer from severe night terrors Idk if that has anything to do with the Ami. And what I experienced while on it.

I've started taking Amitryptiline (2 days ago) Rheumatologist said for a muscle relaxant and to aid sleep. Has anyone experiences of this?

stop taking and see what happens. I'm still in denial and hoping it will all go away. Thank you.
