Fibromyalgia and Thyroid problems
Yey I have fibromyalgia and underactive thyroid, , Had the thyroid problem twenty year, and the discovery of my fibromyalgia since January, or rather they the doctors gave I a name after excrushiating pain for Many years,.
I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia in Mar 14 and although I have not been diagnosed with hypothyroid by a Dr I am convinced that I have had this for many years. My TSH has been increasing since 2011 but as it is still under the magic figure of 10 Drs say it is normal even though I can tick almost all the boxes for symptoms on the Thyroiduk checklist for hypothyroidism. I shall keep asking to be tested properly even if the drs think Im nuts. Gentle hugs Joolz.x
Joolz, my dr tested my TSH levels which were 5.3 but also gave me a test for thyroid peroxidase (TPO) antibodies where I had a level of 367 (normal is 34), so he's started me on a low dose of thyroxine. It's yet to have any positive effects for me personally, but it could be worth asking for the TPO test as well
Thank you I will ask for the TPO test next blood test. My last TSH was 5.83 and still I was told that it is normal?
Europe and America have recently lowered their TSH levels down to 2.5 you are definitely not nuts Flossyjoolz.
95% of people feel better when their TSH is 1 or under, (apparently.)
Thanks for your reply. My last bloods done 6 months ago and was 5.83 and I was told normal and not to be tested again for 3 years! I have asked again several times for it to be tested again (asked both Rheumy and GP) only to be told it was ok last time so no need to test again. I have throat problems now which I am convinced is my thyroid. I will keep on asking for help though until I get on their nerves and they give in.
That is way too high a TSH reading Flossjools, my own fibromyalgia type pains, brain fog, tiredness etc., went almost overnight once my TSH went down to almost zero, once I pushed for more medication, my Doctor was reluctant to give me.
FT4 and FT3 are measures of thyroid hormone. Most feel better when their FT4/FT3 is in the top third or quarter of the range, but Doctors do not understand as I have found out, they only go by being 'within range' so Doctors think you are A1, OK, if your bloods show 'within range' yet many have terrible symptoms when their thyroid bloods are showing 'within range.'
Many are being missed, but in Europe and America where they have lowered their TSH level down to 2.5 they are catching more who would have normally fallen through the net.
You can help yourself, I now do.
YesI am hypothyroid but went hyperthyroid because of over replacement with thyroxine about 4 years ago. A long story with consequences namely AF, I also have fibromyalgia.
Was diagnosed with both by a private rheumatologist about 16 years ago, I think.
Yes I have hypothyroid, diagnosed several months ago, I've had fibro for at least 30 of my 61 years. Lou x
I sincerely hope that you are feeling as well as you possibly can be today? I have had several thyroid tests and they have all come back fine. I go on a regular basis for them as I have a sister with Downs Syndrome who is in her 40s and she has a thyroid issue.
I want to genuinely wish you all the best of luck.
All my hopes and dreams for you
Ken
Hi jennyangel, yes I have under active thyroid diagnosed 15 years ago and more recently Fibro and low B12. Not a great combination, but trying not to let it get me down. Looking at all the possible ways I can help myself. Best wishes MariLiz
