I have fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis so I am constantly in pain of one sort or another. I just wondered if anyone else has problems with their balance?

I am constantly walking in to stuff because of this I have got bruises on my arms and legs.

Hi I also suffer with both your conditions and walk into things all the time . I sleep for about 2 hours a night and have constant leg cramps below the knee and in a lot of pain in my neck. I have my PIP Assessment this Friday

Me too. Bruises everywhere! My balance is rubbish.

Do you take any prescribed meds for the arthritis?. I am in the early stages and wondering what the options are.

At the moment I am on gabapentin 1800 mg a day Ibuprofen 400 mg plus

Tramadol slow release 100 twice a day ,this all depends on how I feel day to day.

My balance is way off, I constantly feel like I'm on a bouncy castle, see your GP there may be other causes of this. xx

I have both conditions too and am always falling over or against something. I have bone on bone in both knees now and walk with crutches but even they dont stop me falling over. I fell in the garden a few weeks back and couldnt get up so laid there waiting for my OH to notice I was gone. It was almost dark when he came out to see where I was and help me up (he had fallen asleep). My favourite thing to land on lately is a car bonnet. In fact I dont care who's car it is either as long as it isnt moving. ha ha. I dont get dizzy much it my knees they just go from under me without warning. Started taking photos of the bruises now in case DWP they dont believe me when I need to show them more evidence. Gentle hugs and soft landings. Joolz.x

I have just a little bit of imbalance, but usually think mine is possibly from inner ear, sinus, dizziness ... I have fallen on a number of occasions. So far I haven't really hurt myself too badly ~ hope no one else does either!!!

Please ... do you mind telling me, Joolz ~ what do the letters OH stand for?!

I see them used when they seem to mean a husband/partner? But other times they seem to refer to a professional care giver.

I hate to be "slow" ... most times I can pick up on meanings, but this one's confused me! (Thanks much for the info!) bk

I use OH to mean other half and OT is occ therapist and now my brain has gone to sleep and I cant think of any others at the moment. Dont worry I cant always get it either. My brain just stops altogether or switches mid sentence to another subject. Sometimes I just sit and stare and listen to the tinnitus tunes in my ears and boy are they loud today. Gentle hugs Joolz.x

Oh, thanks that answers my ques! I do know OT, because one of our daughters has her Masters Degree in Occupational Therapy! And I have tinnitus, too, in the worst way! It just goes on & on, doesn't it Hon?! Mine chgs. around a bit, but it's never music, it's more like "off the station" high pitched screeching ...

I am so genuinely sorry to read that and I sincerely hope that you can find some resolution and relief to this issue. I have balance issues due to sciatic nerve damage and it is very unnerving when trying to walk unaided so I always use a tri-walker. I want to genuinely wish you all the best of luck.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Ken

Hi, I have fibro and also walk into things and each day I find more and more bruises in all sorts of strange places, but I never seem to remember how I got them......I thought it was just me or an age thing, but perhaps I'm not alone reading your post! I'm trying to keep my house obstacle free, but I still get bruises! So keep your chin up you are not alone! Kind regards Fay

I have both and thee same as you I walk into things or knock my arms. I also fall over a lot and for some reason fall out of bed. Yesterday my doctor sent me for an x-Ray on my right big toe because it is so painful were I have knocked it so many times.

Yes, that's me!

I was only diagnosed recently and for years I was criticising myself for being 'clumsy'.

I still do it but at least now I know why I'm such a crock. Also, as I now understand the pain and why I get it, I can be more positive - and of course, now that I've met lots of other fibromites on this site, I've been inspired by you all. THANKS xxx

Me too! Ironically, I sometimes trip over my walking stick. I describe myself as walking with a list as opposed to a limp when I do manage to walk at all. I also drop things a lot which is a real pain when I have real trouble bending. How do you pick up your grasper when you drop it?

Flossy - I love the image of just using any car bonnet to fall on. Maybe we could have synchronised falling over as a new sport in the Paralympics. Saying that I would probably fall over getting there!

in reply to

We could do synchronised bonnet drop. My usual training place for this sport is the car park at the supermarket. Shopper beware leaving your car unattended. You may return to your vehicle to find a Flossy shaped dent in your bonnet. Seriously though not only do I get bruises and sprains I feel such a fool. Gentle hugs Joolz.x

Hi i'm new here and have just read your post. I too have problems' with my balance and like yourself have bruises everywhere. I also have problem's with my co-ordination too. Reaching to lift something i'm either too far away from it and miss it or i'm too close and knock it over. I feel like an old doddery woman at time's and my kid's think it's hilarious.Thank you for your post, i really had convinced myself that i was doolally.

My sister calls me Calamity Jane. I'm dizzy most of the time, my balance causes me to stumble, my eyes get blurred, and I'm covered in bruises a lot of the time.

You've just helped me realise I'm not alone thanks. 🌷

It could be that you have hypermobility syndrome either with your fibro or misdiagnosed as fibro when in fact it's hyper. I have been diagnosed with hms but I'm convinced that i may have fibro also the symptoms are similar. I get balance issues I can be walking along fine n then suddenly I get a wave n I'm shuffling like my nanna. Very strange. I take medication for it, it helps a little but it's not perfect.

I've found that wearing sketchers seem to help, bizarrely. I have a good down stick that I keep in my bag. I haven't used it as I'm afraid of the state's, which is silly I know. I'm newly diagnosed so try to get my head round all this. I'm only 47 n gone from a go getter type person to little miss snail. But snails get there in the end. Get yourself to the doctors to see if they can help you. Good luck

Me too.. lost count amount of times walked into things, trip over my own feet, and drop everything I touch... I guess we have to factor the fatigue we generally feel into it.. increases the “clumsyitus” to the next level xxx
