I've been told I can't get ESA contributions based because I haven't paid enough NI in past 2 years but this was because I was ill and struggled to work( never mind the past 20 years where I have ) I can't get income related so is there anything else I can do ? anyone else been though this ? Many thanks

ESA ?
Have you tried applying for pip, this is non income related, and does not require previous ni psyments.
Hi there,
Golly that must have been a nasty shock, but I have a feeling that if you've been signed off work for sickness, then the system picks that up and pays your NI contributions. I think a visit to the CAB next week would be a good place to start, just to clarify the picture for you. You say you can't get income related either, I would imagine that must be because you have savings of over £16,000 which I understand to be the cut off point, or is your OH still working because they will take that into account.
Oh dear, I do wish there was more I could do to help, but I fear there isn't - sorry - but sending you lots of positive vibes anyway 😀😀
Foggy x
I am in the EXACT same position and trying to find out how I can claim NI credits ?
Thankyou everyone for your replies yes I'm going to go to C.A.B. About ESA and Pip think it will be a long meeting !
I am so genuinely sorry to read that and I have pasted you a link to the GOV.UK cache on PIP so I hope that you find this useful:
I want to genuinely wish you all the best of luck.
All my hopes and dreams for you
Ken
I had the same but I was working and as far as I knew I had paid however it seems that if the employer has not paid NI to HMRC then you will not get it. It is up to us to make sure our NI is being paid HMRC told me?
I am not 100% sure but I think you can pay your absent credits but I know that is to get a full pension not so sure if it would work on the ESA as that is DWP.
PIP is not means tested so might be worth a look.
Be Well
