Any experience of anti-virals (following original Glandular Fever/ Epstein-Barr virus)?

Hello Everyone, Hope your day is going as well as humanly possible. I'm wondering if anyone else experiences a recurrent flu-type illness following glandular fever...and whether you've explored anti-viral treatment with your GP?

So far I'm off work for 3.5 years, currently bedbound). I previously nearly completely recovered from a 15 year experience to resume an active life (full-time work, some social life, hill-walking and music-making !) I've never explored anti-virals before because I tend to steer away from meds but recently discovered wonderful pain relief from Amytriptiline so now wondering whether anything else 'medical' might help... Thanks Arymretep, I so appreciate your kind reply. I'm currently diagnosed with ME/CFS...(after glandular fever and 2 lots of viral pneumonia)....and this condition shares many common features with fibro. I find this forum very helpful (and spirited!)

BOO............. That's the spirited bit, {{{{{RockRose}}}}}

And the vague attempt at helpful, is that I was diagnosed eons ago with fibrositis (now fibromyalgia) having had glandular fever.

I can't remember exactly what meds I was given back then, but now I'm on a fair old cocktail of meds, including amitriptyline, which I have found helpful, more so than I thought I would.

I imagine it's difficult for you to see your GP or have you got a half decent doctor who will visit you? I do hope so 👍 If so, this is something it could be useful to discuss, actually of course you could do so over the phone too. I'm sorry not to be of more help to you my friend, but I'm sending lots of positive healing vibes your way, as I do each day, hoping they reach you !! 😀😀

Interesting that we both 'started off' with Glandular fever...

My GP is lovely and we have phone appointments at the moment - I'm creating a little list of things to ask her at our next review - and thanks to your encouragement, this will be one of them.

Seriously though, I so pleased you've got a good GP and particularly one you like, it makes such a difference doesn't it. I have a fab one and he understands so much, if I'm having really rough time he's not averse to giving me a hug, which is so sweet.

I sincerely hope that you are feeling as well as you possibly can be today?

I am so very sorry to read that you are suffering and struggling so much, and I genuinely and sincerely hope that you can find the answers that you so desperately desire and deserve.

I have not experienced anything like this personally, as I have never contracted Glandular Fever / Epstein-Barr virus. However, I am prone to Pneumonia due to COPD despite repeated vaccinations.

I want to genuinely wish you all the best of luck with this.

Thank you so much for your lovely response, and for your empathy and characteristic kindness.

I genuinely empathise with you too, experiencing Pneumonia due to COPD despite injections.

I respect and admire your spirit and endurance. I sincerely hope and wish for you that these episodes may be contained to the greatest extent possible.

I genuinely and sincerely want to thank you for the thoughtfulness you show me.

As a result, I feel encouraged to keep exploring potential ways of reducing these recurrent viral flare-ups, if humanly possible, drawing-on current medical expertise as part of an overall holistic way of seeing and understanding.

I took valcyclovir for a few years, 500 mg 2 x daily. My titers decreased 30% but no improvement in symptoms. Some have gotten improvement with famvir.
