Hi sorry to hear that you are in the position where you have to appeal and that the CAB cannot give you more help. Turn2us have a tool on their site where you can search to see whether there is an advisor in our area that can help. When I was appealing against my husband's decision for ESA which eventually led to the dreaded Tribunal I used the Benefit and Works site I found the subscription was worth it to get access to their guide which I used to put everything together and what to look out for.
I am presuming you have had a written explanation of why you did not get enough points? We had asked for a copy of the original report and fortunately were able to pick holes in it with the nurse having concentrated on my husband's physical condition when it was his mental condition that was mainly causing him problems. She had also got the doses of his medication recorded wrong even though he ha handed over one of the green repeat prescription forms as evidence. This all put doubt in the mind of the tribunal and they asked to see a copy of all his medical records from the moment he was taken ill and they reversed the decision to give him 0 points to 18.
Appearing at the tribunal in person gives you a much better chance of winning by the way. I know it was daunting but we felt that they were fair in the way they proceeded and in the questions they asked. Good luck with everything.x
I've PM you with an extract from a Factsheet about the actual Tribunal appeal which might help putting your mind at rest. It was a bit lengthy to put it on here. x
It seems that CAB are so strapped for cash that they have stopped a lot of the Benefit advisor's which is why this may of happened?
If you are over 50 you could try AgeUk.
I found my CAB very good but my AgeUK had the same attitude as your CAB. luck of the draw it seems. My ESA assessment did not take any of my conditions into account! The appeal was all over in 10 mins once the Judge and doctor read though my Consultant letters that I had supplied at my assessment I was put on Support.
