In answer to your question, I was wondering if you ate a great deal of bananas? (as you mention fruit). As bananas are very high in potassium and it’s possible you have abnormal potassium levels and should talk to your doctor. Normally, due to their high potassium content, bananas can ease or eliminate muscle cramps.

Extract From Livestrong.com:

Jennifer Anderson, Colorado State University Cooperative Extension foods and nutrition specialist and professor. If you’re experiencing muscle cramps after eating bananas, it’s possible that you have low potassium levels.

This is just one theory / possibility and it would be advisable to discuss this with your GP or Medical Specialist just to have other issues ruled out of the equation. I want to wish you all the best of luck.

All my hopes and dreams for you

If it is fruit with a lot of citric acid in it such as grapefruits, oranges etc. This can cause gout in your ankles and legs and it is very painful. But I have been taking Allpurinol 300mg 1 tablets twice a day. for years now. More is possible. I do not have much problems with that now. I do have orange juice occassionally but stay away from Grapefruit and it is the worse thing. I loose potasssium with some of the tablets I take (water Tablets) so have a banana a day to build it up. Very hard to overdose with potassium. (Think of potassium as a car battery) Once you have reved up you are raring to go!!! Elaine

Hi Evanda

Thank you so much for your post to Audrey12345, I found it really interesting and did a bit of research. Apparently some folk can actually be allergic to citrus and it can be quite dangerous. I have pasted an extract from livestrong.com below about it and a link in case you were interested in reading more about it:

Citrus Allergy Causes

Profilins, a protein found in citrus fruits, typically cause a citrus fruit allergic reaction. In some people, the immune system doesn’t recognize the profilin as food. Instead, the immune system mistakes profilin as a harmful substance and releases antibodies, histamines and other chemicals to fight the “enemy.” This immune system response triggers the symptoms that occur during an allergic reaction to citrus fruits. Allergic reaction symptoms are also sometimes caused by a condition called oral allergy syndrome -- which is often mistaken as a citrus allergy. In this situation, the immune system reacts to the proteins and pollen found in raw oranges.

I was completely unaware of this, and have learned something new.

Hi Audrey,

I can't eat citrus fruit of any kind (oranges, lemons, limes, grapefruit), they increase my level of pain everywhere - apparently they are very bad for all types of arthritis - and they sometimes give me migraine too. I don't find other fruit makes my pain worse, although I have to peel most fruit before eating it or I choke.

Wishing you all the best,

Mim

i think i do. I am in the process of establishing cause and effect. I feel pain more like fatigue, behind the knee in the calf muscle. It feels good to stretch when I am experiencing this pain. It is not like a muscle cramp.

I have had it for years on and off but was never able to establish and relationship with food until recently when it suddenly appeared after I ate Mangoes. And then it got a bit sever when I had some oranges.

I had also been diagnosed with Vitamin D3 deficiency in the past and I believe it has a role to play.

Please let me know more about the pain you feel.
