Medication

I have been on naproxen, amitriptyline and omeprezol for the last 2 months. They didn't really help at all with the pain but did help a little with sleep. Anyway saw GP this morning for a follow up appointment and has now given me celecoxib or its sometimes called Celebrex, he has also upped the dose of amitriptyline by 10 mg. Has anyone else tried the Celebrex? I can't seem to find much info about Celebrex and fibro. I know its really difficult to try and get the meds right. I have to go back to GP in 4 weeks.

Many thanks

Julie

Hi alexander120

I sincerely hope that you are feeling as well as you possibly can be today? I have pasted you some information about Celebrex below:

Celebrex (celecoxib) belongs to a group of drugs called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It works by reducing hormones that cause inflammation and pain in the body.

Celebrex is used to treat pain or inflammation caused by many conditions such as arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and menstrual pain. It is also used in the treatment of hereditary polyps in the colon

Basically it is a very strong pain killer along the lines of Naproxen. I want to wish you all the best of luck and I sincerely hope that this medication works really well for you.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Ken

it is so difficult to find the correct mix of medications, vitamins, etc. that works for each of us since we each have just that little bit of different illnesses/ailments in addition to fibro. i took celebrex many years ago before breaking down and taking serious pain medication. i wasn't aware that celebrex was a strong pain med when i was taking it so maybe they changed the formulary. i take serious hardcore narcotics for my pain including fentanyl patches which work better than anything else for me while still needing additional meds. for breakthrough pain. it sucks but it works better than anything else for me. i have degenerative bone disease plus 4-5 bulging discs in neck and several in lower back. add 18 or so additional problems and now have a sodium problem from the diet required after surgery for hiatal hernia/achelasia. feel like it is never ending so we need to keep trying to find something that helps us. never give up. there are so many new meds in the pipeline and many existing meds are now being prescribed for fibro that hadn't been previously. i do suggest taking one med at a time so know if having a reaction will know which med is the problem. hang in there. keep trying and have faith in yourself.
