Pregabalin

Hi, I have decided that I want to cease taking my pregabalin as I don't feel it is helping me and it has so many bad side effects. I know it has to be done gradually. I have read so many comments and they say the withdrawals are horrendous.

Have any of you done this and how did it affect you?

I gave it up and the reduction in the bad side effects more than compensated for the withdrawals. It nearly cost me my marriage.

I have never taken it... but I suggest that you speak to your doctor or pharmacist before starting to come off it, so they can give you the right advice. Hope that it goes well for you ... xx

I'm not on a high dose, 50mg morning & 175 at night. I cut back to 25mg morning & 150 at night for now. Already I feel much better & clearer headed in the morning. Some of the stuff on the internet about stopping taking it is really scary. I'm looking at doing it really slowly so fingers crossed I'll be alright.

Ian 123 thanks for the link, it was very helpful.

Hi glochessum

I am so sorry to read that Pregabalin has done nothing to help you and I genuinely hope that you can find some resolution and relief to your Fibro. I would definitely discuss stopping your medication with your GP or Medical Specialist prior to doing so, in case there is something else that they can give you?

I want to wish you all the bet of luck with this.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Yes I made the same decision as you . I was told that I had to get up to the therapeutic dose of 300mg but never got further than 200mg after 2 years trying as I had hideous side effects. In the end I came off it very slowly but have never regretted it as I believe that it didn't help the pain but as I felt so slow and drugged that I just didn't care about anything including the pain any way! My memory was so bad on it that I couldn't continue to work. Since coming off it I have been able to assess what is happening to my body and have felt more like fighting for assistance from the NHS - and I have managed to get more support too.

Look up what you are likely to be deficient in whist on Pregabalin, I think it is Vit B & D, but can't remember. Make sure that you are taking these to help you manage the withdrawal, but do ho slowly when reducing your dose. I told my GP that I wanted to stop and he was supportive when I told him why.

I really hope it goes well for you.
