I have severe pain after showers and bathes. I wrap up in a terry cloth robe, I am good till the air hits my skin. I took a bathe Saturday morning steam steam started coming from my legs. I started this 9 years ago while pregnant, it has gotten worse. I was in the water while 6 weeks pregnant wade fishing. Help the itching and burning start from my legs now up to my neck.

So scared lost my mother 4 months ago to Uterine Cancer at 73. Help

Hello,Fibro can do strange and painful things to our skin, Though i have not heard of any one with symptoms quite like yours.

I find that some days the water from the shower feels like tiny hot ball bearings and I cannot stand the temperature as high as anyone else. My skin always feels as though i have all over sunburn some days worse than others but it never leaves .

The only thing that i can suggest, though you have probably tried it, is to finish your bath/ shower with cool or even cold water if you can stand it.

What does your doctor say about this. He may be able to suggest something.

Hope you find something soon.

Hugs sue xx

Doctor...No perfume body washes., sponge bathe, unscented everything.

Use unscented oils and gels too. So far the doctor I have now is trying to help me.

I make myself finish showers then wrap up in a large beach towel or long robe. Lay out clothing I can jump into fast then dont think about the pain.

Thinking about it, It sounds very much like i get now and then on the soles of my feet. It feels for all the world as though they are really burnt and i have to treat them as though they are burnt.soak them in cold water.

I am no doctor but it sounds to me s though your nerves are telling your brain that you have burnt your skin. That would be why covering your skin from the air helps. The ideal would be to wrap yourself in cling film :)

Impractical and too expensive. Have you tried taking a bath last thing at night and then diving straight into bed After first cooling down with tepid water.

So sorry to hear about how you are suffering and the bad news about your Mother which must make everything much more difficult to cope with as you are still going through the grieving process. I think Mayrose's suggestion is good or even trying to have a just warm shower or bath. I don't know whether your shower head is adjustable so you could just have it on a softer setting. My skin especially on my legs often seems to burn. I now use only very gentle, unscented and very moisterising shower gels as I find anything with a perfume sets me off. I also put something like E45 which was prescribed by my doctor on my skin when it is just damp and that seems to help with the itching and burning. I really think that you have come to the point where you could do with seeing your GP and perhaps being referred to a dermatologist just to make sure it is the fibro and that it is nothing else as other things can cause problems with our skin. Let us know how you get on.x

Thanks..I tried the adjusting shower head did not work. Any stimulation from water, towel, or sponge sends me crawling under the skin.

Do not feel like I am crazy

Thanks

Hi,

So sorry for the loss of your Mum. Such an important person to lose.

I just wanted to say that my weakness & pain worsens after a bath. I now ensure its warm, not hotter, as it helps a little. I have no idea why this happens & wondered if anyone else suffers this?

(diagnosed with CFS/ME/FM & thyroid/pituitary problems).

Xx

Thanks...pain worsen after bathes and shower is true. Have wait hours before applying moisturizers. No help from doctors just sponge bathes and benadyrl. Is there information on your diagnosis.

Hi Mj50pain

Firstly, can I offer you my deepest condolences on the sad loss of your mum. Fibro can play a lot of tricks on us, it can give us terrible reaction and interactions at times. Flare ups can be pretty unpleasant and it can take time to find medications that suit us. So please try not to worry too much and persevere with your Dr and get yourself established on drugs that work for you.

All my hopes and dreams for you

My mother thought she was allergic to water but it was the products she used. Turned out it was alcohol that is in many things. She never found a washing up liquid she could use.

Yes...Tried that too. Doc told me to use a little bath oil in my water and pat dry. I hope she finds something she can use.

My husband has reactions to heat and cold where he itches all over. He also gets very tired. Turns out he has Polcythemia Vera. His bone marrow makes too many blood cells and so his blood gets thick and cant carry oxygen around hence the tiredness. He has to have a pint of blood taken when the cells build up.The temperature thing might possible be to do with the blood being part of our cooling system that takes away or brings heat to the skin. This is only a guess though as the doctors don't know anything about it either.
