Hi Shinners

I sincerely hope that you are feeling as well as you possibly can be today? Gabapentin is a Neuropathic medication that acts as a pain inhibitor, and is widely used in many treatments from Epilepsy to MS. Whereby Tramadol is a strong out and out pain killer.

I have pasted you two links below to the NHS Choice pages on these medications:

nhs.uk/Conditions/Shingles/...

nhs.uk/Conditions/Fibromyal...

Please remember to discuss any serious side effects with your GP or Specialist, as there are plenty of other medications that you could try and see which works best for you? I think with all medications, it is a good idea to let your GP know exactly what is happening for you.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Ken

Hi, I take gabapentin 300mg, leflunomide, etoricoxib and codeine. I have similar health issues that you have. The gabapentin really does work to take away a lot of the pain from my spinal stenosis but I still cannot walk very far. My inflammatory arthritis has been controlled well with the leflunomide for about a year but I may be on a flare up at the minute.

Hope you can get some relief with gabapentin and good luck!

It is tough, I know. When you're at working age and working, there is a lot of pressure to turn up for work and be productive as well as looking well, even though you would like to be at home and have a good cry! Hopefully the gabapentin will help reduce your pain and may be, you can decrease the tramadol. Let's hope so :-D

It's sad...........

..................... but they said that to me 20years ago and today after 20yrs anguish I know what's wrong with me.

I take Tramadol both standard and slow release.

When you say you itch when you take too much Tramadol are you taking more than you should? In any circumstance, I think it may be a good idea to go and speak to your GP as you may have an allergy to one of its ingredients.

It is difficult but try not to despair and keep pushing, research the illness and go to see the GP knowledgeable and confident if you can :)

It can take years sometimes to get a diagnosis for our other illnesses so learning how to cope with the day to day pain may be something to think about. Regarding medications it can take a long time to find a combination that works too so sadly, we have to be patient as well as persistent :o

Ken my fellow volunteer has given you some brilliant links and advice :)

I would like to give you a link to one of our facts sheets which discusses what you can do if your medications don't appear to be working.

healthunlocked.com/fibroact...

It may contain links to other useful information for you :)

Remember I am not a medical professional just a fellow fibromite sharing experiences and info with you :)

Hope this helps and send healing fluffie hugs with smiles

Thanks if i stick to 50mg SR tramadol twice a day i don't itch but if i go up to 100mg twice i do itch so instead they give me the ordinary ones to top up. I have been running to gp since i was 13 diagnosed at 32 am now 42 so had everything going on a long time. It is so difficult some days but have to get on with it.

You're in good company here :) We're used to just getting on with it too so you're not alone :)

Pleased to hear that you speak to your GP regularly................

............... I feel like I'm never away from mine too :o

You could ask yourGP abouta combination of amytriptiline and lyrica(pregabalin) rather than your current regime if Tramadol makes you itch

If you are itching you are probably allergic. I'd call your gp and ask him or her to switch the medication. Since I have gotten fibro I am allergic to all kinds of meds I used to take. Hope this helps sweetheart!!! xxx Mitzi
