I am flying to Australia from Ireland via UK in July. I have Hypo, Fibro and Adrenal exhaustion. I am really hoping to feel a bit better than I do now! Does anyone have any tips or know of any good links/articles? Thanks, Di

Oh my gosh! that is a long way. I don't know that I can give you any tips other than to take me with you ;-) I'm quite envious. I have rellies in Oz but have said for the last few years that I would never survive the journey. Sounds wonderful though, I hope you have a fabulous time and are not too exhausted by the journey. Make sure you drink plenty of water and it may help to break your journey for a night or 2 on the way there

Hi -I booked the tickets aged ago to be there for my Mum's 80th birthday thinking...of course I'll be better by then!! Am worse! You are absolutely right-it is a long journey.....I love being there as I'm still an Aussie even tho I've lived in the Northern Hemisphere for more than 30 years now. But I'm dreading the journey-it's a doozy even in full health. We are breaking the journey on the way back for a few nights so that should be easier.

Hi Boronia

I sincerely hope that you are feeling as well as you possibly can be today? I think I would discuss the issue of support socks or something with my GP if I were you? Do you think this could be an issue for you? You may then be able to get some extra advice form your GP over your medical issues etc?

I have pasted you a link pertaining to long haul flights and insulin, I hope that you find his useful:

I want to wish you all the best of luck and I genuinely hope that you have a fantastic time.

All my hopes and dreams for you

I do not know if this will be helpful to you, but I have found a website called every-day-health and they have a page on Flying with Fibro!

Somebody else has posted a similar question to yours so I thought I would do a bit of scouting around!

Take care

Hey!

I just posted a post tonight, similar to yours. I'm travelling to America next week & will be travelling 17 hours. I've did the same flight before but was almost two years ago and fibro wasn't as bad so coped okay.

This time around I'm much worse. I'm hoping with meds and lots of 'sleep' whilst travelling will help too.

Will be following your post ☺ x

I use heat packs which you can buy from the chemist, they are not fluid so you can take them though the airport. I have forgotten the name, something like Radiant Heat. They are in a red box, you can get them for your back and also for your shoulders, about five pounds for two in a pack. The warmth lasts for about 12 hours - wonderful. They have iron in them so rather than settling off the machines, I put them in my hand baggage and then put them on the airport. If I was travelling to Australia I might take 2 for the journey out, and 2 for the journey back, so that you can change the pad if it gets cold.

I also use Melatonin 2-3mg when I am travelling through time zones. They are the natural hormones that your body makes, but they get out of sync and that causes jet lag and fibro flares. So I take them an hour before bedtime on the first 2 days after arrival and the first 2 days after I get back. You can buy them on the Internet, and in some countries in chemists over the counter, or your GP might prescribe them - they also help with sleep. Hope this is useful.
