Does anyone else suffer from hormonal migraines and any cures ?
Hi Shazzzy
I am so sorry to read that you have been suffering with hormonal migraines. I have migraines due to food allergies and I know from experience that they are not pleasant.
Have you tried eliminating food stuffs and aspects of your surroundings one at a time? This tends to help find what the triggers are? I remember a GP telling me years ago that Soya turns to Estrogen in the body creating weight gain for women, so there may be a trigger somewhere?
Sorry, arrogant presumption here on my part (you said Hormonal, so I presume you are a women) please forgive me on this, and I apologise.
I have also pasted you two NHS links relating to hormonal headaches and Migraines. I genuinely hope that you find them useful:
nhs.uk/Livewell/headaches/P...
nhs.uk/conditions/Migraine/...
I genuinely hope that you can find some resolution and relief to the your Migraines.
All my hopes and dreams for you

I too had (fingers crossed recent sucess) terrible debilitating migraines either just before or just after my period. I have had a course of accupuncture and chinese medicne and it seems to have worked so far -(good few weeks after starting treatment) blessed relief ! Its something to try anyway. Also depending on your symptoms - (most are very similar to Fibro- have you been tested for 'sticky blood' -Anti Phospholipid Syndrome (APS or Hughes syndrome -has a sister site on here) ? One of the main features is migraines/headaches and many people get relief when started on anti coaggulants - unfortunately not me ! Good Luck !
Hi. I am so sorry to hear you are suffering. I too suffered from hormonal migraines for 30 years and its only in the past few they have dramatically reduced. I'm 56 and menopausal I very rarely have them now and even if I do get one, they are a lot less severe. It's like a miracle! I think it depends on how far you are in the menopause but I know of other women who no longer have them once they go through 'the change' The only thing that helped me when I was suffering was imigran (sumatriptan) although i didn't like the side effects. The Neurologist told me rest, rest, rest, eat little and often and get to know your own triggers. I hope you find relief. Gentle hugs x
Thanks for all your replies, am hoping to try acupuncture soon, so fingers crossed. I also know of women whos migraines stopped once thy went through menopause, unfortunately that hasn't started yet. As the migraines are triggered by hormones I dont know how to prevent them, seeing a neurologist next week so if anyone has any suggestions I could mention to him that would be great. Many thanks.
