Hi bluebell10

I sincerely hope that you are as well as can be? I have found this information somewhere else online on a medical site. I sincerely hope that it can answer your question.

The difference is in the chemical name. Tramadol HCl is a salt, likely an ammonium hydrochloride salt, it would improve its solubility in water and may make it more available to the body. With just the name Tramadol it may or may not be a salt as trade names do not have to give chemical information.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Hi bluebel, regarding tramadol, I've had three different colours so far , green and yellow, just yellow and just white, they are all the same just different brand names, I think you will find that the green and yellow ones go under the name of zydol, ....hope you are keeping reasonably pain free.....gentle hugs....Dee x

thank you dee, oh yellow too, they make things confusing don't they especially when there's a few others to take at different times, hope you're keeping well today :) x

I am glad someone else has noticed I have been told they are the same just branded. Although I have found that the white tablet form of Tramadol works better than the yellow/green hydrocloride version. They must have some additive that does not agree with me or one of my other tablets. I have gone back to Tramadol but sometimes given Tramalief which although told the same as 'Tramadol' I don't think they are as effective. I am not an expert but my body can tell the difference - is there any professionals that can shed light on this???

oh im glad you said that about the white tramadol, i thought that myself but when i said to my hubbie he thought it was my imagination! i wonder if we can ask for the white one then? i expect it would be no cos they're more expensive, ive never been given tramalief. x

I asked for the Tramdol white tablet at my last review although even the doctor said it was same but still put it on my repeat. Since then I have been given Tramulief SR 100mg tabs Prolonged relief has hydrochioride written in italics underneath. The original Tramadol I still say work better lol. can't win chemist says they are just same

Yes that does explain a point I had forgotten about the original hospital doctor I saw prescribed Tramadol Slow-Release that is the main difference and find it works better. I take Sertraline and it helps to increase the happy feeling in the tabs somehow making me feel much better to cope.

in reply tolonelyandtired

I take the same as you but I take the 50mg immediate release as a top up measure. The slow release or extended release (same thing) work tons better because they don't wear off like the immediate ones do.

Hi suwie, could I just ask if you tapered them off or just stopped all at the same time. I came off them gradually and it worked well. What I did was instead of taking two at a time I reduced at to one then reduced the number of times in the day of the period of a week, then took only one every day, then every other day then once every three days and then off. Each reduction was done for a week as my GP had said if I came of all of a sudden I would feel ghastly.

Hope this may help a bit :-)
