Morning creative, I think you will find they are for different things, sertraline is basically a antidepressant, but they do it to us to help pain also, I guess that works because if we aren't too depressed then we can cope with pain, the LDN is mainly used for chronic fatigue syndrom which of course is a side effect of fibro, I have sertraline as well as gabapentin, tramadol and co codamol, I think they are going to do a study of fibromyalgia and LDN ....hope this helps....gentle hugs...Dee x

Hi I don't take them but I have a friend with MS who has been paying privately for ldn tablets (apparently they wouldn't fund it in our area - Norfolk). She started taking them about last October/November. They seemed to help initially with her energy levels but not her walking. From memory she started on low doses which increased to about 4 tablets a day but by early February she has been suffering from bad migraines (which she's never suffered from) and there had not been any significant improvements, so she has stopped taking them for now. I don't know whether they are similar to sertraline tablets. Hope this is helpful. x

Here's the LDN website.

lowdosenaltrexone.org/

My Gp is willing to give me this as an NHS patient but due to other health issues ATM am reluctant to take it.

I know a couple of people taking it that had good results but no one knows enough about this medication long term.

It's given to heroin addicts too to get them off drugs ( it's opiate based).

You cannot be on any opiate drugs at all whilst on LDN.

You have to weaned off them gradually.

It can be helpful with M.S patients as said above.

Hope this helps x

Sertraline is not opiate based and is an antidepressant. X

Hello Creative,

As Jules58 says Sertraline is a anti depressant medication called Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) are a more modern type of antidepressant. They include citalopram, fluoxetine and paroxetine. They are used less often in treating Fibro because they work almost entirely on the levels of serotonin, but they can be better tolerated than TCAs in some people (Lindsey Middlemiss 2009)

From what I have read personally research continues into the use of Low Dose Naltrexone in Fibromyalgia and there have been numerous articles on the internet, which all seem to conclude in the need for more research.

Here's a link to Arthritis Research UK which may be of interest;

I hope this helps

Hi creative

I sincerely hope that you are as well as can be? I have looked up some information about this but I have just noticed that Mdaisy has posted the link to Arthritis Research UK. I sincerely hope that you find the information that you are looking for there? As many have said, the medication is actually an antidepressant.

I sincerely hope that you can find some resolution to your issue.

Hi, I have been on Sertraline for 8 months now I can honestly say it has helped me a lot I am on 150mg daily although it has helped make me a lot calmer I tend to shrug anything off if I think it will cause me to flare up, I do not know the idn tablet sorry, I hope everything goes well for you these illnesses are so intense & can vary considerably the medication can be different, my illness literally knocked me off my feet over night I ended up giving up my business as the stress was too much, my marriage took a bad turn as my wife could not understand what I was going through we lost our house as well & lost thousands on the sale so a chap advised me well on my debt, I hope that you find what you are looking for & let everyone know how you go on if you need to chat let me know I am a good listener for now take good care of yourself billy
