Hi there, I find that rest does help but I also have to have periods of moving as much as I can. The hard part is finding the balance between the two. Fortunately I don't have RA, only fibro and lymphoedema. It is very much a triel and error for me at the moment as I am finsing i think I am 'well' and I do too much and then I have a day or so where I can hardly move. I would suggest you keep a note of what makes things worse and try and find a balance between resting and keeping mobile. Hope that helps, Linda.

I think fibro limits deep (REM) sleep so sleeping longer might not help as longer doesn't meN deeper sleep. But pacing yourself definitely helps. I find this really hard but essential to make myself rest for a few minutes at least between tasks. Are you working? It's hard if you are so make sure you take all your breaks entitlement. And if you're not, still have breaks between jobs at home however small the jobs seem. Vitamin B complex and magnesium seem to help with fatigue too :) x

Although fibro does unfortunately mean less (or no) deep sleep, I do find that a nap helps in some way, particularly after an unavoidably busy day. As the other replies say, pacing is essential, although it's really hard to stick to if there are things you need to do, or are managing to work. Splitting tasks into chunks can help, such as putting shopping away, e.g. frozen stuff followed by 10 minute rest, fridge followed by 10 minute rest etc. Hope that helps somewhat.

Hi there

I am a great believer in naps. They are very restorative and enable us to carry on through out the day with smiles on our faces.

Unfortunately a great many of us do not sleep or achieve the right sleep through the night and that means naps are essential to our well being.

You are right pacing is essential but it can be quite hard to manage as we often think we are Ok to do something and find before we finish we are exhausted = stop or finish the task. I always find I try and finish when I should really stop rest and return to the task later as this would be better for my body. You know it is easier said than done sometimes.:)

If you find exhaustion a problem for example there are occassion I can not stay wake what ever I do so give in with grace have a sleep it matters not the time of day. Sit relax close your eyes and remember elevate your legs. xxgins

As much as I try to pace myself during the day I also reach a point where I feel totally drained, terribly weak and also cannot keep awake. I agree that taking short naps does help enormously! I also have days where I feel I could run a marathon I have so much energy, however I have also learned that these days are great but I still have to force myself to rest otherwise I am laid up in bed totally incapacitated for days on end. Fibro can be very difficult to 'live' with! Soft hugs to everyone xx

Hi mrsmyers :)

I agree with everyone who has replied to you before me they all give sound advice :)

It is recommended that people with chronic pain conditions have at least one session of 30 minutes relaxation every day. It mimics sleep and gives the body a chance to get rid of the lactic acid that builds up which helps to cause to the pain and discomfort that we feel.

I am a firm advocate of relaxation and post relaxation exercises regularly if you you'd like to click on my name and then click on my posts and scroll through you should find a couple in there :)

Good luck and I'm always about if you have any questions about my relaxation exercises. We also have virtual fun day trips to help make us use our imaginations and forget who we are for a short while........ this is called the distraction method. Keep a look out for the next trip ;) hope to see you there

I'm not sure when the next virtual trip will be as I'm busy with appointments all this week :o plus typing is hit and miss it takes ages correcting all the mistakes as my hand-eye co-ordination is shot at the moment ;)

Oh goody wildwoman , I'm really looking forward to zeb's answer on this, she is the fluffmeister extraordinaire , haribo is her great helper and it seems I have been the baddy since a touch of bother with some cats in the early days..... Fluffies were just lovely comfy things when they first arrived on the scene, but events have occurred in which they have waged war with the evil cats, and been taken over by said cats and have ended up creating and try to solve problems all in one go....... Hehehehe :D :D :D

Foggy x

Hey foggy, member of the month - well deserved! As my fluffy is a baby, i shall protect it from the evil cats with dettol and a wire brush (heck, where did that come from - just had my meds doubled, that must be it!) xxxx

in reply towildwoman

haha! fluffies are soft cuddy hugs so as not to squish us so it hurts :)

They like a lot of things here are virtual and fun :D

Today just for you all I have a full range of fluffies to give out to help ease the pain and sadness that we as fibros often go through.

There are fluffy cuddles, fluffy cuddle couches, cushions, fluffies for snuggling and also recliners which are also programmed to omit lovely scents of your choosing.

Imagine reclining in pure fluffy softness whilst smelling sweet vanilla, musky lavender or cheeky chocolate?!

Which would you choose? what scents would you like and what would be your colour of choice?

Evil cats don't like the happy fluffiness and every now again they pop up to cause chaos.......... just a little fun :D
