Hi, just had a look at the NHS website. It does say that anyone with a weakened immune system should have the flu jab. Maybe check with your GP. I know that if yo have Asthma you can have the jab. Hope this helps.

I was invited for one last year we are entitled I believe as our immune systems are weakened. So ring your surgery and ask ! I am booked in for one on 21st .

All the best

Hi the doc sent for me about three weeks ago for my flue jab, but then maybe that's because I'm asthmatic....Dee x

I was told that Fibromyalgia didn't count so was not offered one. I just go to Boots and have it done.

Good idea jillylin I never thought of that :o

How much does it cost? I don't mind paying, just so I've had it, and then I'll go tell them at the surgery I've just been to get it at Boots ;)

About £12 but I believe other main supermarket pharmacies are offering it for less.

I was in sainsburys the other day and they were saying over the tannoy that they were doing flu jabs for £5.00 at the moment, I don't ever get them from my docs for fibro...x.

I haven't bothered asking as they (my surgery) send letters out to those they give it too and I don't get one :(

I did manage to get the vaccine one year and it helped tremendously ;)

Though, after reading you guy's replies, I do think I shall ask.......... wish me luck......... I always get told if there's any left then yes, but then always too embarrassed to ask again :(

Thanks guys. I think I'll call my surgery and ask for the vaccine. Wished I'd discussed this with my Neurologist last week, as usual Fibro fog and I forgot ;D

Hello all,

In my area, surgeries vary as it is based on their interpretation of criteria below;

nhs.uk/Conditions/vaccinati...

It is also advised that carers have the flu jab but the eligibility seems to be judged upon no set criteria. I was told by one surgery you need to be in receipt of carers allowance, however this information is incorrect. It does appear that each GP surgery decides on their interpretation of clinical need for patient & carer.

My personal opinion is people living with Fibromyalgia & any chronic pain/fatigue syndrome & their carers should be always eligible.

As many have said you can purchase the Flu Jab if your GP does not deem you to be eligible. Here is more information from the NHS website regarding FAQ;

nhs.uk/Conditions/vaccinati...

Hope this helps

I have one every year because of my asthma, never knew about the carers section. I haven't had it yet since I'm having a rough time currently. Waiting for feeling slightly better.

I got mine because I worked with the elderly in a care home then lost my job to FM. 3 years later I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes so get it because of that. I don't know if fm sufferers can get it

According to my Dr if you have fibro you don't qualify xx

Ditto, my doctor said I don't qualify and even said not to get it from anywhere else because it may make things worse.!

my doctor said that i would not benefit at all, as the injection contains the flu virus, and i could possibly catch the flu from that

Totally untrue!! The flu vaccine is NOT a live virus, so it will NOT give you flu!! What sort of a doctor is yours then??

one that i have to keep fighting for everything. he is good in some ways but really bad in others.

This is correct Sue32, the Flu Jab isn't a live vaccine. I think is highly likely that people who say this either had the starting of a cold/or flu type illness without knowing just before the vaccination or caught a cold afterwards. I would always personally recommend the Flu jab if offered as a really bad Flu can knock people living with Fibro for six.

I get offered one as I have slight asthma but I dont take it as I dont totally trust it not to make me a little off.....I dont feel it good to take things if you dont really need it. I have fibro too....

Iv had the flu jab for the last 4 yrs at drs they really do help. Just phone and book an app at drs. It's well worth a phone call. We get little help as it is, so please try

After enquiring at my doctors I was told I qualified as I had a long term illness, I would have paid for it I have been having it now for 8yrs. Going today for my flu jab. Good luck and gentle hugs all fibromites. Diane

I had mine last Saturday and it has never affected me apart from having a very sore, painful arm for a few days. However, this year was different. On Sunday morning I could hardly get out of bed!! I couldn't open my eyes properly, my head was heavy and my legs felt really weak!! Took 2 Solpadeine and hey presto I felt better!!! XX

I get invited for the flu jab each year but the past couple of years I've not taken up the offer.

Personally, Id find I was fine for the couple of days then I'd be floored for a month or so after and not that great after that. The tiredness was a killer. Much like it is these days with the fibro.

They only offer it to asthmatics in my area if theyve been hospitalised with the asthma.

My GP said I didn't qualify with fibro but they could let me have it as my hubby's carer. Even so they don't actually invite me when they write to him, so we just ask them nicely. Usually works!
