Dry eyes seem to go with dry joints. If I get a flare, my eyes always join in.

Having said that, it's always wise to see your optician regularly - don't take chances with your eyes, they are too precious!

There are several brands of drops which will deal nicely with the dryness, but do make sure that your eyes are OK first.

Hello davinci, I was diagnosed with Dry eyes many years ago before I was diagnosed with Fibro and had other problems, I wake up in the night not able to open my eyes normally affecting one eye but sometimes both, I have now been given by my gp Lacri lube before bed and other drops for during the day, both of these you can buy over the counter but if you don't pay for your prescriptions then this way is cheaper. But you must see your Gp to rule out anything else. Good luck. Aisha x

Thanks I have tried some drops before but they helped for while and then didnt seem to antmore. Will check with G.P. It is more in eye than the other, am due for opticians check up soon, xx

Hi , I have dry eyes too. Sometimes my eyes stream with water, shortly after I feel like I have something in my eyes, I feel like I have gritty eyes , they appear a bit red. I get something on prescription for them and on first use of the drops my eyes sting like mad. But then relief it's lovely the drops are ace. I use them every day till they feel a bit more like their old self. As soon as I feel it coming on out comes the drops. They are different drops you can use. Tell your GP tho because sometimes dry eyes can cause an infection.

If the drops sting ask your gp to prescribe preservative free ones. I have had dry eye syndrome for about twelve years. The GP from when it started was not really interested but the optician wrote to him asking him to refer me to the eye clininc at the hospital where it was diagnosed properly. Dry eye is a bit of a misnomer really as the eyes tend to water and get sticky. A more sensible phrase is unstable tear film. If they get too gritty and sore at night don't try to soldier on watching tv or reading. Use the drops or the stickier lubrication. A couple fo ibuprogen or another anti inflammatory too. I have recently discovered a brilliant therapy for this. WARM T BAGS .........................put two tea bags in a little dish, pour on enough boiling water to soak them, let them cool a bit but when they are still quite hot place them on your closed eyes and leave for about ten minutes. Follow with a squirt of the drops.

BTW it was the eye consultant who realised that my flare ups with eyes co incided with other aches and pains and sent me to the rheumy, no GP involved at all.

I also have dry eye, which is really irritating, but the only thing you can do it seems, is to get eye drops from the doctor as they are better than the ones you buy in the superstores. I also get lines coming down my eyes which are a bit like spiders webs or hair in your eye, [ very annoying ] which I can`t seem to get anything done about apart from having an op, which could make it better, or send me blind,so, I don`t think I will bother with that for the moment, so will just keep on taking the drops///// Sorry can`t be more help for the minute, but at least you know you are not alone. however, if I find something, I will let you know Best of luck, try not to get too down x

I have RA and suffer with dry eyes. My GP prescribed lumecare eye gel for day time and lacri-lube for bedtime use. It doesn't cure the problem - but the relief is wonderful. I sometimes felt like I had sand in my eyes and the gel has really helped. I don't use liquid eye drops as they seem to make it worse.

I also use Lumecare, as I go to bed, on waking during the night and in the morning, and whenever my eyes feel dry during the day. It used to be called Viscotears. I couldn't manage without it. I also always use a moisturiser on my face and Chapstick, or similar, on my lips. Everywhere is dry!

Hello Davini,

As Nanuuk has mentioned some people do have a diagnosis of Sjogrens Syndrome secondary to their Fibromyalgia. I would consider mentioning your dry eyes to your GP when you next visit.

Here is some information on Sjogrens which may be helpful,

Hope this helps
