Did any of you manage to catch the programme on channel 4 last night called skint?
It's based in scunthorpe and follows the lives of a large family on benefits and others on the council estate where they live. If so, what are your thoughts on it please? Xx

If they are getting loads in benefits drive cars and are laughing I really don't want to know ..it would be too depressing, if they are. Suffering like us then I will find it on catchup and watch it.... Please let me know which one before I raise my blood pressure levels in rage and disbelief
My experience of benefits is that it's incredibly hard to make ends meet, so I don't know why everyone thinks that claimants have an easy time.
If they are living the life of Riley, then they are obviously claiming more than they should, or they're involved in crime.
I'm sorry to generalise, but when I was on benefits, I couldn't pay my mortgage so I lost my home, and only by extreme care could I manage to feed and clothe my children.
Probably more populist crap that will feed the perception of benefit claimants as painted by the likes of the Sun and the Daily Mail. I would like to see more programmes devoted to tax evasion like Saints and Scroungers did to benefit claimants. They cost us far more than benefit fraud.
I am afraid I have seen it all before and have no wish to watch a programme which seems hell bent on making us all look feckless, thick or downright criminal. There is enough prejudice as there is. I can't see this show will change anything unless they also show how hard it is surviving on benefits. Rant over lol.
I was actually shocked and I don't shock easily, especially when he showed his bits and pieces to the camera after his vasectomy, soon after the 8th child was born, I actually thanked my lucky stars that my daughters have turned out without any of the problems shown in this program. Incidentally I come from a council estate with a lot of the problems these people face.
I have to say, my one recurring thought for the man with the large family was, "at least he was trying". He had worked for 23 years before having to claim, and he did not sit idly by doing nothing. The mother with the teenage son just made my blood boil, I kept screaming at the TV. She and her excuses and lack of discipline are the reasons why her lazy, oxnoxious 15 year old and others like him are running around causing mayhem. The way he spoke to her, with such abusive language and contempt and then says, whilst he's laying in bed, "bring us a fag mum". Grrrrrrr.
i have a feeling they may be investigated after the show..it may have been all planned..[not by the family of course]..it made me heart scalded to hear him and the mother swear in front of the kiddys..and the blatant way he was showing all knocked off food in fridge!...plus he was horrible and made matters worse by flashing his old todger! everything they had must have been knocked off as just smoking costs at least £6 a packet and both smoking that alone must be £100 per week!...ah well ..plus one comment on here about him working for 23 years..i have worked all my life,i am now 63..have been on my own for 28 years and now i am fighting to get a little extra to help with my dissabilitys x
