Advertisment aside, I use manuka for loads of stuff from sore throats to sore chapped hands. You can buy it in Aldis for half the price fo everywhere wlse so don't buy it from the site posted here!!!!!!
People still not getting hint then that ads arent allowed huh!xx
Does anyone known where Unknown Zealand is? One of life's great mysteries must be how someone has managed to discover and market this wonder product from an undiscovered country! Joking aside, I have heard good things about manuka honey but not willing/able to pay the extortionate prices. I do use balms containing beeswax and propolis for their antiseptic and anti fungal properties as well as their moisturising and softening abilities both on myself and on clients when they wish. Found it's helped me manage my eczema without resorting to steroid creams most of the time.
I think Manuka honey is a single source honey, ie., it comes from one plant, there are only a few honeys like this over the world, but another is Yemeni honey from Wadi Dou'an (not an ad as there are lots of different companies that sell it). It is also a monoculture honey like Manuka honey, from the Sitr tree, and it is expensive even for Yemenis, but people buy it even though they are mostly very poor for health reasons. I found out about it when I lived in Yemen and it is used for a number of conditions, especially those that are inflammatory, which fibromyalgia isn't. In general, honey is considered useful in many conditions - for example, it definitely works when used in dressings on infected wounds, there is lots of high quality research on the positive benefits of honey. But no-one has done any specific research on the benefits of monoculture honey versus other good quality honeys, especially organic honey which is free of pesticides.
Ordinary honey has been used for ages as a healing agent. It was used on me by my mother amd grandmother, and when I was nursing in the '70's and 80's it was used on leg ulcers and bedsores with good effect.
Manuka is supposed to be good, but I think a lot of it is clever marketing. I can't afford Manuka, so ordinary works for me.
