Gabapentin
im on this and too be honest.ive put on wright more with this but it takes the edge off my pain and most nights i get some sleep.
takes me while to come round in the morning as im like a zombie .but the benefits far outway the negatives.
there are other people on here im sure who work also whilst having this?good luck and please dont cry, your not on your own.xxx
Thankyou xx
I put on weight with this, but appart from that I have suffered no side effects. And the therapeutic effect has been very good for me. I'd say give it a fair go - I take 600mg morning and afternoon, and then 900 at night.
Hope this helps
Gentle hugs

i am currently on a low dose of 200mg 3 times a day and i didnt think it was helping me at all until i stopped it for 3 days - then i realised that it did help! the only thing ive found with it is if i dont eat before or soon after i get very dizzy and sometimes a bit disorientated but as long as ive eaten im fine. i am starting to increase my dose slowly by the recommendation of my gp so on my last dose in the evening i take 300mg as if i do feel funny i am able to just go to bed.
good luck
xx
There's some more information on Gabapentin (not much we are working to update it) on the FibroAction website (fibroaction.org/Pages/Other....
Have you asked your GP about muscle relaxants like clonazepam?
Cheers
Simon

I am on the max dose of gabapentin and i really dont feel any benefit from it but if im late taking a dose then i really know about it so it must be doing something! The only side effect i think is due to this medication is i suffer with an exteremely dry mouth and i drink so much water its untrue! I recommend you try this cos if you read the side effects from most fibro related meds then you wouldnt try anything! Gentle hugs..,,,Charlii x
Hi there,
Just warning you that this was introduced to me as a gradual low dose & I had quite an extreme effect..................hives& swelling. Not heard of many this has happened to though so I hope that you will be ok on them & they help you too
Hi Coops, I've been on this medication for about 5 or 6 years now. I went on holiday for my sons wedding to Cyprus & forgot to take them with me, after panic was over I thought there was nothing I could do about it so just got on with it. I felt absolutely great for the 2 weeks I was there & when I got back home I thought sod it I'm not taking them any more I don't need them!!........ wrong! on the 3rd day I was running to get them. I don't know why I didn't need them when I was away....maybe it was the different heat & weather to what we get in GB but I sure need them now. I am on 7oo x 3 daily & I know I couldn't manage without them now....I have not noticed any side effects while being on them apart from a little bit of weight gain but to be honest I think that is more to do with less exercise as I have quite a lot of other conditions as well as FM. Give them a go Coops, you wont know until you try them & all meds say they have side effects but it doesn't mean you will get any only could.
Hope this helps hun, take care Gwen. xx
Hi coops, I've been taking Gabapentin for ages now and I must say for me it worked brilliantly within days. I suffered with severe pins and needles in my arms and legs which was so bloody painful but within days of taking Gabapentin the symptoms had almost completely disappeared. As far as I'm concerned it's a wonder drug but I guess it works in different ways for different people. The only side effect I've had like most people is a little weight gain but was is that in comparison to loosing most of your pain
Good luck & gentle angel hugs

I was on Gabapentin first ok as the dose went up i got severe constipation i was very ill on them
This drug made me feel dreadful and so loopy that I didn't know the day of the week or which was was up. Also piled on 2 stone in 3 months and I hadn't even reached the normal starting dosage, far less a therapeutic one. The side effects were horrible. Recently tried Lyrica. This didn't make me loopy, but the other side effects were intolerable. Weight ballooned again too which exacerbated my back problems. But for the side effects, it might have eventually helped my neuropathic pain as when I stopped I did note an increase in symptoms, although I had not thought it was doing much at the time of taking it.
That said, this drug definitely works for some and its great if you are one of them. Nothing to lose by giving it a go. Good luck.
.
Ive been on Gabapentin for years now, 400 mg 3x day and apart from like others weight gain I have no side effects. Whether Id be worse without it I don't know because you can't measure how you would be but I don't have any awful side effects and when I started it I did notice an improvement in my symptoms of the neuropathic pain so yes I believe it is helping me.
My daughter is 15 and has also been on this med for a few years and for her it definitely has helped with her neuropathic pain.
I recommend you try it!
Good Luck!
Same a Waterlily - felt auful and one of the chaps we talk to in the local cash and carry took one look at me when I went in and basically said "whatever you are on, come off it" before I had chance to say anything to him!!
Amitripyline seems to be my tipple, and 5HTP is brilliant for the mood swings - and I mean BRILLIANT. I still get depressed, but now it's only when I have something natually to be depressed about.
I had to come off Gabapentin too, couldn't tolerate the side-effects, but am on Lyrica now and hoping it does some good ... well I've got nothing to lose!
Hi
I am another who tried Gabapentin but couldn't get past the WOOOzyiness so It has now been changed to Duloxetine I must say though the Gabapentin did help in some ways with the pains if only I could have got my brain engaged I might have stayed on it...Goodluck ....xxxx....Hoping it works for you !!
