5 misscarriages one by IVF

hi all,

I’m just looking for anyone that can relate to my current experience. I had 4 natural miscarriages while trying to conceive all before 12 weeks. I then had IVF last year. 16 eggs, 8 embryos, 5 blastocysts 1 fresh put back. Pregnant first time. Then the baby had no heartbeat at 9 weeks. I had to have medical management in the end. I’ve had a frozen transfer at the start of March and now pregnant again.

Exactly the same as last time no spotting, some cramping but a little more than last time and mood swings which I didn’t have last time. So I feel like ultimately I’m going to have the same outcome. Not looking for reassurance more relatable experience.

I’m under care from the recurrent miscarriage clinic as well as the hospital. Can anyone relate and give me any kind of advice and if they had a successful heartbeat? My scan isn’t until the 7th of April this is when the misscarriage get involved depending on if there is an heartbeat and I’m already dreading the outcome of this scan.

Any advice is really appreciated x

Hi This is awful, you have been through so much, bless you. I trust they had a good look around your womb when it was evacuated and a sale of the loning taken to check the build up. Do you need a blood thinner and perhaps a low dose steroid such as prednisolone, in case the pregnancies are being rejrcted, i dont know but worth asking. I can only wish you well and that they can come up with the correct balaance. Diane

Hi Diane, thanks so much for coming back to me! Yes it’s been a lot but I have a really strong support network otherwise I think I would be a lot worse. Yes so they said everything was absolutely perfect. When I started my frozen cycle I went for my lining scan and again the nurse who scanned me said my lining was perfect and ready for transfer. I respond really well to meds and get pregnant it seems every time but it’s just the heartbeat that seems to either stop or isn’t there. They are putting me on asprin on the day of viability scan but that is only if there is a seen heartbeat. They haven’t mentioned prednisone but it all feels a little trail and error. I have eating disorder, however I have been in remission since 2019 and I am a healthy weight so they said this shouldn’t have any impact. I’m on high dose of folic acid which I wasn’t on last time but it’s just the no heartbeat that is a little baffling. Me and my husband have had the karyotype testing and no abnormalities have come back so it’s all very confusing. I don’t do anything different each time as I’m a Zumba teacher so I put my body through a lot of exercise but they said this is fine to do!

Charp im so sorry to read what you’re going through. Firstly, you are currently expecting the worst and that may indeed not be the case. Pray to your baby and ask them to stay with you…that they are loved and you wish them here to be with you. Mindset is soooh powerful on this journey and you must not always fall to fear. Are you having your HCG tested and can you just get an early scan privately for reassurance? I wish you luck with this pregnancy but worrying and fear won’t change anything only make it worst so my advice is to find some peace in your mind someway. ❤️

Have you ever had the POC tested? I had this for my last miscarriage and it gave my clarity as to what the issue was. I also had recurrent miscarriage blood panel. Good luck xxx please update us xxx

Hi lovely - congratulations on your pregnancy! I know with your history it is so difficult not to overthink every single twinge. I have been pregnant 5 times and only have one baby earth side - and she was conceived through ivf. The main difference in my cycle with her was I took baby aspirin (75mg) until 34 weeks and I took levothyroxine as at the time my thyroid was borderline (it’s now fully hypothyroidism sadly). These changes are why I feel I made it to holding my baby this time!

I’m not sure where you live but maybe if you’re in a position to pay for a scan, an early reassurance scan would be a good idea? They can do this from around 6 weeks. Very best of luck ❤️

Just to say I wasn’t prescribed the aspirin, I just did my own research took it over the counter!

Yeah I understand what you are saying but my recurrent misscarriage nurse has advised against it as I am high risk for misscarriage. Thinning somones blood who may have a misscarriage is very dangerous.

Get a blood test for antiphodpholipid syndrome, it caused 4 of my miscarriages. Also demand beta blood tests to check doubling rate while you’re waiting for your scan date. Wishing you the best of luck x

Can you advise where you got the antiphodpholipid syndrome test done please?

At our fertility clinic but your GP may be able to do it also. It’s just a blood test. Wishing you the best of luck. I’ve had 6 losses myself, it’s torturous I know.

Already got all of this when I had my recurrent misscarriage screening and karyo screening. Myself and partner had everything

Hopefully it will work out for you this time but if not, there are a number of tests I would have done and things I would ask the clinic for (which I am pretty shocked they don't appear to have suggested already given your circumstances) 1. Thrombotic risk profile test - you may need low dose heparin injections 2. Natural killer cells test - you may need intra-lipid infusions and prednisone steroid tablets after transfer and for a certain number of weeks 3. Emma/Alice test. Additionally they now recommend that to prevent miscarriage you should take progesterone pessaries right up to at least 12 weeks so if you are not already being recommended that I would be reading up and asking your doctors about this.

We already did all of this. I had the recurrent misscarriage screening and karyo which both me and my husband had which included all of the above. Already on progesterone as it’s standard after a embryo transfer.

Hi lovely,

5 miscarriages are a lot to go through... I just want to give another perspective: you clearly get pregnant easily, so it could be that your body accepts even low chances embryos, it gives them a chance. It's a high number of positives in a relatively short time. It could be worth testing the embryos and see if there is some genetic problem with them.

But don't call this pregnancy over yet, symptoms at the beginning are all over the place, they could mean anything... Be strong and let us know!

Hi I am a very similar situation to yours. This is my fifth pregnancy after having 4 miscarriages. It is a natural pregnancy but 1 previously was a miscarriage through IVF. Miscarriage clinic has given me low dose aspirin and heparin injections (blood clotting) as soon as I have notified them. Next week I am 6 weeks and they have given me an early pregnancy scan. You can ask them to give you one, given your history. I am also terrified of my scan next week as they have never found a heart beat in my previous miscarriages. I had to be referred to the miscarriage clinic by my GP, but my GP did not want to do that. I had to call the miscarriage clinic and they sent me an email with instructions to forward my GP. So do not wait for your GP to do anything. I wish you luck.
