uti during pregnancy

Hi,

I’m having some pain when I pee, and I’m afraid it might be a UTI. I’m taking progesterone vaginally, and I’m worried that the discharge may have caused something. I’ll have to see a doctor to check, but I’m wondering if anyone has had a UTI while pregnant? I’m so scared of taking antibiotics during pregnancy😓

Hi lovely, I took D-mannose for a UTI when I was pregnant. The internet is awash with conflicting advice about its safety in pregnancy but after reading up I felt comfortable taking it. The only thing to be aware of is that it'll only work if e.coli is the bacteria that's causing the infection, so def worth seeing a doctor to determine what bacteria yours is. If it's something other than e.coli then the d-mannose won't do much xx

Hello - just come across this post as I've been told I've got E.coli in my urine at 10.5 weeks... scared myself silly looking on the internet. I'm waiting for the GP to prescribe antibiotics. Did one dose of D-mannose clear yours up? How many weeks were you at the time? Were you told about any problems it may cause for you or baby? Did you have any symptoms? Sorry for so many questions! xx

Ah, you poor thing. Try not to stress yourself, it's really very common. I don't remember how far along I was but it was definitely in the first trimester. And I self-medicated/ didn't speak to my doctor about it, so keep in mind this was not doctor's advice. 🙈 I just did the same thing I'd done in the past to clear up UTIs.

You need to take d-mannose pretty frequently for a few days in order to clear out all the bacteria. I took 500 mg (either capsule or powder) with a glass of water, every 2-3 hours for 3-4 days. Once your symptoms start to lessen you can go a bit longer between doses. And of course, drink loads of water. xx

hello there! Apparently UTIs in pregnancy is very common. I had once random ant about 18 weeks. I just had a doctor to get the urine / blood tests to check this and ended up with an antibiotic course. But this medication was obviously suitable for pregnancy. It is much better to get treated than leaving as it could develop in a nasty thing! Do speak to your doctor, and don’t worry they won’t give you unsuitable drugs.

Get well soon xx
