We are planning a FET which will land in late April. We really wanted to go on holiday(short haul to Greece) for May bank holiday. That might end up being just a couple of days after our transfer. With my husbands work that is the only time we could do. We have not had a break the two of us since Oct 2023 and it would be so good for us mentally to be able to get away but of course we don’t want to do if a risk. We asked our Consultant the question over email. She advised against a long haul flights but not clear on whether short haul is ok. We’ve followed up with her but she is really and we tend to get one line replies or none and think we may not end up getting her clear advice on the matter.
I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts/experiences or advice they can share on travelling after a transfer?

if you do decide to go abroad just make sure you are completely up front with travel insurance about fact you’ve had FET.
I know a case where they wouldn’t cover treatment for a DVT because the lady was potentially pregnant through IVF which they class as high risk pregnancy and apparently would have charged a premium for cover if they’d been aware.
For context many ladies fly back from abroad following their IVF treatment abroad. It’s just what you feel comfortable with at the end of the day.
I flew back to the UK 3 days after my transfer in Barcelona and it was all fine! Make sure you don’t carry any weight whilst on your holiday (get the hubby to carry your luggage/lift it for you on the overhead compartments etc), and take enough meds (and a lil extra just in case) to cover your stay.
Taking a holiday after an FET is a fabulous idea!! You’ll be relaxed, and soaking up vitamin D 😊
Hi lovely my clinic is in north Cyprus and I have to get 2 flights 5 days after my transfer and I have a 18 month old now it didn’t effect it loads of women go away or travel back the day after transfer and have success with there treatment just take it easy that’s what I did just took my time no rushing about got my hubby to carry and lift everything if you are on any injections might be a good idea to get a letter from the clinic to say you have had treatment and are on meds
Have a nice holiday lovely and sending you loads of luck with your treatment
Happy to share my story. Something similar happened to me. I had an holiday planned in advanced (wedding of a friend abroad, flying morning of day 4 after transfer) and asked advice to the embryologist after the transfer, who did not advise to go, neither against - but she said "mm it is a bit early". It was our choice, I do not think they would like to take responsibility with this matter. What convinced me to go anyway was her last sentence: "if the embryo wants to implant, it will implant anyway. How many women travel without knowing to be pregnant?".We went, and embryo implanted. I tested when I was there I m currently 28weeks pregnant of my baby girl💗 I believe this is your choice - read a bit around, and see what you feel!
Our clinic is in Greece and many women including myself fly home the following day after a FET. There is zero evidence to say flying causes miscarriage/implantation failure x
It’s all about being mindful of certain things.. no lifting luggage and not overheating xx
We sacrifice far too much in this miserable world of IVF.. go and enjoy your holiday xx
I was very cautious about my first two pregnancies which included not flying but these resulted in missed miscarriages. I took a short haul flight the week after I found out I was pregnant for the third time and then again at 10 weeks - this pregnancy resulted in my son who is now 2 years old. I wish you best of luck. X
I didn’t have one right after transfer but we flew long haul when I was 6 weeks, to Dubai and also Mauritius, babe is 5 this year ❤️ all the best with your transfer! xxx
