natural FET?

I’ve had my first egg collection, but due to high risk OHSS, then unrelated medical issues I’m having a gap before my first FET.

We have male factor infertility, so I’ve been told I can do a natural FET. But I’m wondering how natural is natural? Is it no drugs at all, or a limited number/ time? How do they know when to transfer? Do you end up needing more scans/ blood tests? Would love to hear others experiences. Would be keen to do it as free from intervention as possible, but want to manage my expectations.

I had modified natural FET for my successful transfer. Tracked ovulation at home with POAS tests. Then had trigger shot when ovulation peaked. I also started on cyclogest pessaries.

Thanks for sharing 💕

Is the trigger shot like the egg collection one or something else? Do you know what that was for?

With modified natural FET they often use a trigger shot to trigger ovulation so they know exactly when to put the frozen embryo back.

Thanks - this is useful to know!

Full natural would be no drugs but modified natural/ natural with luteal support is like Doodlebug23 describes.

Thanks! It’s good to know that no drugs is possible - so in your experience can it be without progesterone too?

My friend had no drugs (not even progesterone pessaries) but largely some luteal support tends to be recomended

I did a natural FET, the only thing I’m using is progesterone which (I think) everyone uses as it is recommended if you’ve done IVF. I had a lot of scans to see how thick the lining was and blood tests to see when I ovulated. They kept doing them until they could see on the blood test that i had ovulated and the scans to see that my lining had reached a certain thickness. Transfer was done 5 days after I had ovulated. I think I started the progesterone 3-4 days before the transfer. I had a blood test 11 days after the embryo transfer to see if pregnant.

Thanks for sharing your story. How many scans/ appointments do you recon you had in the run up before transfer?

It sounds like you might still be in the thick of it - if so, good luck xx

I had more than usual because I ovulated a week late. But it was about 4 scans and 6 blood tests. I think it would usually be less though.
