My clinic have suggested a natural FET and I'm confused as to how it works.
I asked whether I needed to track ovulation with tests and they said no... other posts I've read all say they've used clearblue tests and waited for the smiley face.
Has anyone had a natural FET and not needed to do ovulation tests? How do they get the timing right?
Thanks

Hi Cahoots. I agree, you need to get back in touch with the clinic for clearer instructions. It may be that if you are regular with ovulation, they will go with that. All the best with whatever is decided.
I don’t see how you can do a natural FET without tracking ovulation 🤔 as Diane says defo phone your clinic again and ask them EXACTLY what the process is for their natural FETs. Some clinics have fully natural and some call it ‘natural’ but are supplemented with drugs and even trigger shot and just don’t have the down reg but even then your cycle is still important to track I would imagine. Hopefully your clinic can explain it better I hate it when they are so vague!! Xxx
Thank you. They did mention a trigger shot actually and then the quote they gave me had £650 on there for medication. I wondered how they could call it 'natural' and then charge that much for meds 🤔
I'm just looking at options at the moment, going to wait a couple more months before going ahead, so I'll have another chat with them to find out the correct process!
I had modified natural. I had trigger shot when everything looked right (went for 4 checks before they told me to trigger, they were tracking my dominant follicle, lining and also blood - LH and progesterone). ET was scheduled exactly 7 days after night of triggering. I also went for blood check day before transfer, they checked progesterone. And I had prednisone 5 days (last dose on transfer day). No progesterone supplements nor nothing. I think it was great because I didn’t even have to bother with ovu tests, and one shot (abdominal) was easy peasy
Thank you. I think this must be similar to what my clinic have suggested I do. Just the fact that they said natural threw me a bit when they started mentioning meds!
They said I would have to use progesterone pessaries after the transfer too, so I suppose it's modified natural! It's making more sense now, thank you!
in my case they did progesterone test before transfer and didn’t prescribe progesterone supplements. Natural cycle is following ovulation so you produce hormones (as naturally would go when you ovulate and stay pregnant). When they do full medicated then you get estrogen and progesterone injections and pills and everything is more controlled. Some clinics here (USA) don’t even do natural cycles because for them is easier to fo medicated and have exact timing for every step. In natural one they need to monitor you closely to see when id ovulation happening. I never did medicated and my doctor suggested natural immediately because my cycles are very regular and all my tests are normal, hubby has teratozoospermia (only 1% normal sperm) and that was preventing us to stay pregnant. We did have two natura pregnancies (one was chemical and one was early miscarriage in 5th week) and doctor put that on “bad luck” tab after our ivf cycle (we were worried about egg quality because I’m 37 but we got lot of good embryos so looks like we really had bad luck) Listen to your doctors, they will suggest what is best for you ☺️
Hello, my clinic also call them natural but I did not track my ovulation. I went for a scan on day 10 and they measured the dominant follicle and the lining. First time I had to do 2 more scans before I was ready for trigger and second time only had to do 1. When the follicle is measuring correct size they gave me a time for the trigger. Then I supplemented with Progesterone (however a very low dose, which was optional). For me I would still say it felt very natural compared to stimulated round (which I really did not enjoy).
You can also track ovulation on the side for your own peace of mind.
Hi Cahoots, I had a natural modified FET, which included a trigger shot and supplementation with progesterone. I had regular scans (roughly every two days) so my clinic advised me not to do ovulation tests, but I tested daily anyway from about cycle day 10 as a back up to ensure I didn't miss my LH surge.
Your clinic will be best to advice you on the exact process though.
