I recently had a chemical pregnancy, I got my period on the 2nd of March (it was due on the 24th/25th of February). My period was strangely light and short, and I didn't see as many clots as I expected. It ended 4 days after it started, but now I still have some spotting every now and then. I also feel like "poisoned", and bloated as if my uterus didn't completely clean up after the pregnancy.
My question is: can anyone recommend a test, or an ultrasound scan, to check what's going on?

Hello so sorry the only thing I can recommend is to get your bloods done to confirm, I done this on the 22 February so I new for sure ,as it was my 7 attempt at this I just couldn’t keep buying tests and taking the drugs like on previous goes just to prolong my pain.Sending you hugs xxxxx
Don’t worry hun, it takes some time to the body to get rid of side effects of medications and get ‘clean’ again. Give it a couple of weeks and you’ll feel much better ❤️Take care of yourself❤️
Thank you, Cookie, it actually was a natural pregnancy, so no medications involved. I just feel like my endometrium lining is still there, hanging around to no pregnancy 😢
Sorry to hear of your chemical. It just takes time for your body to get back to normal and get away from the medication side effects etc. I really dont think there are any tests you need. Hugs.xx
Thank you, Cinderella, as I mentioned above I'm not on medication, it was a natural pregnancy, I just feel bloated, and have a constant light headache as when one eats something that makes you ill. And I still have some spotting 😢 I'm thinking of having a scan to check... BTW, you're almost there! You must be really excited
Ahhh I'm sorry! I presume you have had a negative pregnancy test? I had a spontaneous miscarriage around 6wks previously and didnt have much bleeding but knew it was over the hospital scanned me a couple of days later to double check but they asked me to check with a pregnancy test to see my levels dropped which is the best way without scanning to check your body has gone back to normal. Incidentally I hadnt shed my lining, only the pregnancy but all was ok and my period came as expected the next month.Yes, I'm getting there thank you!!xxx
I see then, it's relatively common to experience light period after a CP, and hopefully everything should resolve with the next period. I asked my GP to have my beta HCG level tested as I have a history of ectopic, and I was already having my blood test done to check my thyroid. It came back negative as expected...
Glad to hear that has been checked and all is normal. Well I'm not saying its common as I think most people have heavier bleeding however I guess what I wanted to let you know was it can happen and the hospital weren't in the least bit concerned and just wanted to see my hCG back to normal. If you are experiencing anything like pain or what could be an infection then dont hesitate to contact your GP though, that's what they are there for. Look after yourself, it's a hellish experience.xxx
I'm so sorry for your chemical pregnancies- I've had 2 myself and a loss at 20 weeks. With both my chemical pregnancies I had heavy bleeding. The first one was before we had our 21 month old daughter. I was really unsure of it all and had a scan when I would've been 6 weeks- the scan confirmed no pregnancy anymore. The next one I had I didn't even bother having a scan as I knew I'd lost the pregnancy I had heavy bleeding too so was sure content had expelled. I fell pregnant straight after my second chemical pregnancy early days I'm only 5 weeks 5 days. I wanted to give hope to show that just because you have a chemical doesn't mean the next one would be.
If you are in any doubt I would strongly advise you to have a scan to be certain all pregnancy content is gone as that could make you ill . With chemical pregnancy they normally expel all content and rarely require medical intervention. Again I'm sorry you are going through this Xx
First of all, congratulations on the recent BFP! A loss at 20 weeks must've been tough... I think I'll have a scan, I googled and I found one named "wellbeing" for women, not sure that's the most appropriate one, though, given the situation. But it can't do any harm! (apart to my wallet!)
Thank you. It was so tough and it's broken my heart- not a day goes past where I do not think of or miss my Amelia horribly. Luckily we have our beautiful daughter Francesca that we had to keep going for her she needs her mummy and daddy to be ok. Feel lucky to be blessed again I'm sure my Amelia had a hand in it I'm due in November (I lost Amelia in November.
)Chemical pregnancies are devastating the hope of seeing a positive then seeing it go wrong is awful 😢 particularly when it's such a wanted pregnancy. 🥲
Scan is worth every single penny if it helps to reassure you that all is ok. I'm sure things will settle that but it's worth putting your mind at rest. Especially if you've had an ectopic pregnancy really sorry to hear that.
If your HCG drops to zero no need for other tests. If positive you may need an US or salpingogram with fluid injected in the uterus to see if there are remains. It does look like you just have the weird period after miscarriage that if very normal to occur. Hope you feel better soon
