i’m freaking out a bit so was just looking for any stories. I will ask my clinic tomorrow but for now any advice is welcome.
We have done 6 cycles so far. I always get a good number of eggs but never had more than 4 blasts.
Our last round we had 14 eggs, 11 were mature and 10 fertilised. We sent 4 poor quality blasts for pgta (x2 D5 and x2 D6) and only got one complex mosaic.
We’ve agreed to do one with OE before moving to donor. I have my medications which is the same as my last protocol.. 300iu gonal and 150 meriofert. There’s a girl at clinic who has an ivf instagram. She’s usually a poor responder and only ever gets 6 eggs. She used pergoveris and got 11 eggs!!
Why would pergoveris be a better choice over gonal f? Has anyone tried pergoveris and had a better outcome? I think i’m just panicking as the date gets nearer. We ideally just want more blasts to send for pgta to hopefully get that all important euploid.
Thank you xx

It’s all very stressful when you start looking at what has worked for others etc and want to maximise chances isn’t it. If it’s any consolation I’ve always had top dose Ovaleap (same as gonal f) and had 3-4 eggs usually excellent fertilisation and blast rate from those. I think Pergoveris is often tried in those with poor response. But the one cycle we used top dose Pergoveris, I ended up with 7 eggs (most ever had) but ZERO blasts for first time ever. So we went back to original protocol. I’m not saying it’s not worth a try. But definitely did not pay off for me and I wouldn’t risk it again. It wasn’t just an egg quality decline thing, because the next cycle with the old protocol we got some top quality blasts again. Xx
Yes it’s so hard not to compare and having spent over £1000 on meds so far i’m really reluctant to swap now so late in the gam. It’s so difficult not to feel like we’re going to end up with the same outcome. I’ve done ovaleap in the past and didn’t have a great response. Just shows you that everyone is different!
It’s so difficult isn’t it. I wish they could just know exactly what will work. Or we had enough funds and time to try something different each month!!
Pergoveris is reallllllllly expensive. I've had it my past two rounds - first round I got 4 eggs, 3 mature, 1 blast. Second round I had 4 follicles on my scan and had 1 egg retrieved. I was devastated. If I have to try again I'll probably change back to Meriofert or try something else.
It's so hard seeing what other people get but no two cycles are the same.
Yeah I think it's geared towards low ovarian reserve, it's supposed to create good quality embryos but I'm on my tww so that's yet to be determined lol xx
Hi! Going into round 6 my doc decided to change it up and for the first timw we went with Pergoveris (as it's supposed to help create better quality eggs, women respond to it better, etc). And we had the worst outcome ever. I always used to get 14+ eggs (27, 22, 14, 12). But with Pergoveris I only had 4. And it was shocking as there were so many follicles but majority of them were empty. Needless to say, we had zero embryos out if it. The doc was shocked as well on how my body reacted to this drug. But it was clear is did not do any good for us. For round 7 we went back to our usual drugs and got 14 eggs. Long story short - what works for some, does not work for others. And I completely understand your feelings as had (unfortunately) plenty rounds myself. Sending you hugs and love ❤️
Yes, I did start with both and carried through the whole stim period. I was on Gonal F 200 UI and did not change it as higher dose tends to overstimulate me xx
Hi! It worked well for me. I had my best result ever with pergoveris. Previous two cycles only 2 (with 10 fertilized eggs) and 3 blasts (with 7 fertilized eggs). This last round 7 blasts, and first transfer was bfp (currently 26weeks).
It's so hard to know what to do, I've had 7 cycles, the last two with pergoveris. I had my highest number of eggs collected ever with both cycles however poor fertilisation and blast rate. First time no blasts and second time 2 blasts after using mechanical egg activation to improve fertlisation. It didnt replace gonal f in my case it replaced meriofert. My specialist believes it is better for the quality of the eggs in particularly for older women but this wasn't exactly my experience. This could also be due to advancing age though. Its all trial and error unfortunately. Best of luck with your decision and your cycle xx
Thank you so much xx so sorry you had such a poor response
I don’t think i’d be happy changing things at this stage the more information I get. I’d be heartbroken our last attempt getting blasts would be a waste of money, time and effort xx
It's tempting to want to try something else, anything else to improve the chances but it's such a gamble. Its not only the financial hit but the physical and mental toll it takes plus the lost time as we get older. For me if there is a next time, I will have one last go with my first protocol as that's the one that got me pregnant however short lived.
If you are getting 4 blasts on your current protocol thats a really good number, I think it's just a matter of finding the golden one ✨️ fingers crossed for you xx
You’re absolutely right. It’s just so hard knowing what to do for the best x I’ve tried a few protocols over the years and I know i’m a good responder to gonal and meriofert.
My doctor told me that pergoveris is made by the same company as gonal f and it contains gonal F (FSH) and recombinant LH in a 2:1 ratio. So if you’re using gonal f (FSH) and menopur (50/50 FSH/LH), it’s basically the same thing depending on your dose of each. It’s also incredibly expensive. Im trying 150 pergoveris and 300 gonal f, starting next week so fingers crossed! I hope I’ve made the right decision trying it x
This cycle i’m prescribed gonal 300 and meriofert 150 x
My friend had DOR and she was telling me how expensive it is and it didn’t benefit her what do ever xx I think i’m just having a wobble as our date draws closer x wishing you lots of luck with your cycle xxxx
Well there you go, so you’re basically on 375 FSH and 75 LH. That’s equivalent to what I’m doing with pergoveris and gonal f, just in a different form. Fingers crossed for you. When do you start? I’m starting end of next week I think. Xx
ahh thank you so much xx so why would someone have pergoveris over gonal is it purely for the FSH??
We’re staring in about 3 weeks! Missed starting this month because my husband works overseas so he wouldn’t be able to fly out to clinic in Athens x Wishing you lots of luck xx
Yeah gonal f is pure FSH whereas pergoveris has FSH and LH. I think adding LH is supposed to help with egg quality.
This is my last NHS round then I’m looking to go to Greece myself if it doesn’t work. I’ll be interested to see how you get on. Good luck with it all 🙂
I had 5 egg collection cycles with Menopur and Ovaleap, which resulted in 2-5 blasts each time by zero euploid embryos. Then my meds were changed to Pergoveris and I had two more egg collection cycles with two blasts each time, so there was definitely no improvement in numbers. However, the first Pergoveris cycle gave us one segmental mosaic and the second one - one euploid. Hard to tell though whether it was by chance or changing meds actually helped.
Yeah I get that it’s so hard knowing and I honestly believe it’s just luck. My friend had one protocol.. sent 6 blasts and every single one was aneuploid. She had another cycle.. same protocol and got one euploid! Her little boy is now 4 months old xx
