starting fertility treatment - clomid

Hello,

I was just wondering if anyone who has been through treatment with clomid might be able to help me. This is step one in my fertility process. I’m a healthy BMI but have irregular (virtually non existent) periods and so it is suspected I’m not ovulating.

I don’t have any friends who have been through fertility issues and feel quite lonely. I know this is only the start for me but finding it hard to be optimistic. I have no idea what to expect but have my first appointment at the Assisted Conception Unit in a week and a half.

Would just appreciate someone else to talk to who has been through or is going through something similar! I have no idea what to expect or how it all works.

Thanks so much

I’m sorry you have found yourself here. Lots of people who thought going through the same so you definitely aren’t alone!!

There are a few different drugs they can give you to induce ovulation. You take clomid for the first few days of your cycle, I then had to test for ovulation and had a blood test to confirm ovulation after. I know a friend of mine was scanned to confirm ovulation too.

It’s quite a simple process but clomid did give me pmt which wasn’t much fun and hot flushes (just to warn you).

Fingers crossed it works for you x

Thanks so much. Reassuring to know I’m definitely not alone!

Did it work for you? I know the success rate isn’t high and already feel a bit pessimistic about it. I know that isn’t the right attitude!

Good to know about the side effects - will mentally prepare myself (and husband!) for that x

Hi. It works by getting the pituitary and hypothalamus glands to work together, I order to get the ovary to produce an egg. Taken on the se+ond day of period for five days. Sometimes causes headahe because of the position of he glands . Can cause mood swings too. Good luck. Diane
