miscarriage and moving forward…

Hi everyone!

Following my recent miscarriage, I was very keen to try and move forward - definitely part of my healing process.

The miscarriage happened and I am yet to have my first period, but have now had a negative pregnancy test. I have been tracking ovulation and can see that the tests were still showing ‘positives’ while hcg was still present. They then progressed to show nothing and now are showing high fertility so I think things are on their way to getting back to normal.

I had a discussion with my consultant earlier this week who asked how quickly we wanted to try again with a new cycle and I said as soon as possible so we have made plans to start again from my next period.

This would mean no interim period which I thought (and was told by the nursing staff) was the standard way forward.

I’ve done some googling and it says there are no issues with this and obviously I trust my consultant but I wondered if anyone else had done this and jumped straight back in and would be happy to share their experiences?

thanks for all your help and support, especially during my miscarriage - it is amazing having you all to talk to xxxx

Take care

Thank you Janet. I asked him the specific question as to whether it would be detrimental etc and he had no concerns so we’re going with it!

I think it helps as I feel okay about the whole thing - trying to see the previous pregnancy as a positive even though it didn’t progress as we hoped.

Thanks for your best wishes!

I’m also interested in your responses 😘 I also had 3rd transfer and 3rd time was first positive ever ! I miscarried 4days ago at 5 weeks 5 days and the pain still is brutal . I will now need a further egg collection and wonder how long they will make Me wait , I will be 38 in two weeks and keeping in mind egg quality and age xx

I’m so sorry to hear this and hoping you are doing okay.

I wondered if my consultant has taken into consideration how my miscarriage progressed ( I think I’ve had a relatively easy ride in comparison to some) and psychologically I am feeling okay. He didn’t talk through these details but I imagine they were part of his thinking.

I wasn’t supposed to do my pregnancy test until next week to confirm but wanted to do it before my consultation so I knew where I was at.

I am 38 later this year so have the same concerns as you.

Wishing you all the best with your future treatment and hope you can move forward as quickly as you’d like to xxx

Hello - sending lots of good wishes your way. My experience was following a miscarriage at 6 weeks, I jumped straight into another frozen transfer after my period (this took longer than usual to arrive) as I felt phsyically and mentally able. From this transfer I’m now 13 weeks 🤞🏽 good luck xx

Thanks so much for sharing - this gives me some comfort I haven’t made the completely wrong decision! Xx

Hi, sorry to hear about your miscarriage. I heard that after a miscarriage, you are extremely fertile. This is for early loss not late loss like my stillbirth at full-term as you have the normal postpartum bleed which lasts about 5-6 weeks.

Wishing you success.

I am so sorry to hear about your still birth - can only imagine how you must feel - sending lots of love to you.

I did wonder about trying naturally if I get a positive ovulation test but feel like my head is a bit full as I wasn’t expecting them to say we could go for our next cycle so soon xx

Thank you. I hope you fully recover I'm sure the same would apply when doing IVF ie being fertile.

IVF clinics are a business so they would want you back asap. I hope you are okay, I guess you have something to look forward to. Are they changing your protocol x

Crazycatlady007 in reply toLondonlady2024

Thanks!

Pretty much the same protocol just a different type of trigger. Back to the kind I had with my first cycle as I had a better volume of eggs but the stims of my second cycle where I had better quality. Keeping everything crossed it’s a good mix! Xx

So sorry for your loss xx I had a silent miscarriage in August and my consultant wanted me to have at least 2 periods before doing another cycle. His rationale was because your ovaries are suppressed during pregnancy he wanted time for my cycle to get back on track & also due to my age (40) he wanted me to have plenty of time on supplements to enhance egg quality.

Each consultant is different so I would go with what he recommends but if you’re still unsure then I would ask for another consultation with him to discuss your concerns xx Good luck xxxx

So sorry to hear about yours too.

That’s really interesting thanks for sharing! Had you been taking supplements previously?

I asked him outright if it would reduce our chances or be detrimental and he said no so just going with it! X

Yeah i’ve been on supplements for years xx

But because i’d been pregnant my ovaries were obviously suppressed and a full egg health cycle is 90 days xx So even if he’d have told me I could have gone again straight away I personally would have waited regardless xx

Good luck xx

hey, I’m sorry to hear about your miscarriage. Just wanted to say after my first fresh transfer, I had a chemical miscarriage and they were happy for me to proceed at the next cycle for FET straight away. They scan you prior to starting the meds anyway to double check everything looks ok.

After my second miscarriage at just over 6 weeks they wanted me to skip a period, and like you I just wanted to crack on. I got the impression if I had pushed they would have told me I could go ahead, but I thought I’d try something different for my third attempt! If they don’t have any major reservations I’d go with what your gut tells you. Good luck!! Xx

Really sorry to hear about yours too.

Good to know you were okay to carry on straight away.

I don’t have any embryos left so we’re starting from scratch again. It’s been quite a while since I had my last egg collection in feb xx

Ah okay sorry I misunderstood! For collections it was a bit different for me as I had a 3 cycle package (due to low egg count). They were meant to be back to back before any transfer attempts, but whenever I went back for my baseline scan to check I was okay to proceed with another collection, I’d have cystic follicles so had to wait for that to clear before going again which was super annoying. But yeah, either way they will scan you before starting meds for collection to check all is ok. All the best! Xx

A fertility gynae I watched on a fertility q&a podcast mentioned that the sooner you try for next fet the better (as long as emotionally ready) ie next one or two period as the uterus is still immune suppressed from the prev pregnancy and the miscarriage acts like an ‘endometrial scratch’ to enhance the environment. it does make some sense in a way..

Crazycatlady007 profile image
Crazycatlady007 in reply toIcykoala88

Ooh that’s really interesting thank you for sharing!

This will be another egg collection rather than a FET as we have used both embryos from our last cycle. Hopefully the theory still stands - fingers crossed!!!!

Hello,

I had a miscarriage in August and was desperate to try again straight away. My sister is an Obstetrician and she advised me to wait until after my first period to try again so that I could have the healthiest possible endometrium. I felt like she didn't understand how desperate I am to be pregnant again but when I had that first period it was really different than my normal period, much more clotting and heavy and more painful, but afterwards I felt much better as I felt like what came out wouldn't have been a healthy environment for a new pregnancy. I am now glad I waited and will try again this cycle.

I wish you the best of luck and a healthy pregnancy soon xxx

I’m so sorry to hear about your miscarriage too.

How helpful having your sister around!

I feel like my head might fall off with all the info around timescales/medication etc from my clinic but I think I might actually have another period before I start as I’ll be taking the pill from day one of my next cycle when it arrives - take that for 21 days and then if I remember rightly from last cycle, I will have a gap of 5 days where I’ll have a bleed and then start stims … not sure if that bleed counts as a period but I think it might be the opportunity for a heavier bleed then. I feel like I’m living in a real life science experiment! 🙈 I’m hoping this will give me chance to have optimum healthy insides without having to wait too long 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

Best of luck with your future too and thanks for your reply xxxx

The way that I look at it is, if I didn't wait and something went wrong, would I wonder if it was that and blame myself, this way I am giving myself some grace.

It really takes the innocence away from it doesn't it, but I have accepted we will never have a carefree pregnancy like some very lucky people do, but it is all worth it in the end. I have a little boy who is 16 months and it was a very scary complicated pregnancy and he was premature, but he is so wonderful now and those scary frustrating times are in the past for his journey.
