where to start

hello,

so I feel like a fish out of water. Me and my husband have been trying to conceive for coming up to 3 years this February 25. We have had no luck not even a “maybe”.

Last year we went for fertility testing privately as the gp really didn’t seem to care and said come back in 5 months once I’ve lost a few pounds ( I am a very fit person I walk at least an hour a day and have horses so I’m out 2x day every day but my bmi is over by 0.5 so I’m to fat basically his words) I am far from being obese but I am built very steady and muscular)

private clinic lost some of my results but the consultant told us not to worry as we are young and healthy and to come back in another year ( where we are now) my amh level was tested at 4.7pmol ( consultant ) scared the days out of us by saying that it’s extremely low and we should consider ivf as soon as possible due to this clinic being very expensive and loosing our bloods that would have identified this a year ago, we chose to move.

I am going next week for baseline scan and then have a consultation next week. My husband although extremely understanding and caring is very set that if we need ivf it wil work first time ( he’s trying to be positive as I spiral into my own thoughts if not) I’ve also heard horror stories about private clinics not giving the correct dose of medication to get repeat custom. We are now on the nhs list but gyno wait is 12 months something we have both said we are not willing to wait as we are petrified that my reserve will be gone.

Can someone please write a list of what questions are must asks to the clinic as we will have a consultation after the scan on the 15th oct.. if everything is okay we would like to go ahead and start treatment ideally before the end of the year I have started a fertility friendly diet in preparation and have been doing this for 2 months ( I don’t eat bad - but have changed slightly) we are going to opt to freeze any embryos we have ( the first consultations made it sound like we’d be lucky to get 3-5) but from reading else where this is not exactly accurate.

Me and my partner have no previous children, I did fall pregnant after a sa when I was very young 16/17 and I opted to terminate.

we are 30 and 33. Any help/guidance would be greatly appreciate as I feel like I’m starting to drown and going down rabbit holes on Google

lots of love to you all ❤️❤️

Hi, I have completely been in your shoes and still don’t have all the answers but I just wanted to offer some reassurance.

Myself an partner had our round of IVF back in June, and although our fertility issues have been identified as severe male factor we were lucky enough to get success with our first round and I am now 16 weeks pregnant. I was extremely negative regarding our chances of success but from the information I have received being ‘young’ certainly does help. Myself and partner were both 32 at the time.

The AMH of 4.7 to me doesn’t sound so bad, there are certainly a lot of people who have had success with a much lower result. So don’t let it get you down, I appreciate it’s easier said than done.

Perhaps look into access fertility where you can pay for a certain amount of rounds with some guarantee of money back with no success? This is what I was thinking of doing if nhs round wasn’t successful.

Ask and research about different protocols so you are informed prior to your consultations. You can then go in armed with questions!

I’ve heard that sometimes people have back to back egg collections to get more of a reserve when they have lower egg numbers expected and to ensure a higher quality reserve when it comes to having a transfer.

I hope this helps, wishing you all the luck with your journey. XxxxxX
