Hi all, I'm sorry to ask on here but I'm struggling to find answers online. Does anyone know if you can book a HyCoSy procedure to have your fallopian tubes checked without having to go through a full fertility MOT and consultation beforehand? My very unscientific logic says that if my tubes are blocked nothing's getting through anyway so it would be best to have them checked before anything else?! I had fertility tests done in 2021 and I know things will have declined since then but I can't really afford to spend hundreds of pounds on a preliminary consultation and other tests as well as HyCoSy. I am very lucky to have a 2 year old daughter but it took us a long time to conceive and we were about to start IVF so now I'm worried about secondary infertility (I'm also 38). TTC makes me very anxious and stressed so I'm trying to have whatever element of 'control' is possible....
Can you just get your fallopian tubes... - Fertility Network UK
Can you just get your fallopian tubes checked?
Take a look at hfea.gov.uk [ Fertility Regulator for UK ] Find a clinic near me - then enter postcode and how far prepared to travel Once found a suitable clinic maybe could ask them price etc of HyCoSy
Take care

Hi hcs204 it took me a bit of searching but I found a great place that specialises in the HyCoSy procedure that didn't require all the additional things. The consultant that did it was great as we're the staff hugely supportive. Initially I could only find clinics that wanted me to do the full fertility MOT and this would have been much more expensive.
My cost was reasonable (not sure if we can post details on here but DM me if you need them). I did it in November last year after getting some recommendations on here.
The scan confirmed my tubes were clear as well giving me some additional useful information my regular consultant hadn't picked up on relevant to my fertility. They explained everything and sent all the information both to me and my regular consultant. It gave me a huge amount of peace of mind and was much cheaper and safer than the alternatives that I was initially advised were my only options.
its o e of the very first things they check before the reccomend any fertility treatment. We have the procedure where they put dye in to check no blockages before we even had a consultation at fertility clinic via referral from our GP. Then depending on outcome of that and other tests informs the consultation recommendations. For example as there were no issues we were recommended to try IUI first (which didn’t work) but it is defo the first step for any nhs or private clinic to check this. Did they not check during your testing 2021? Xx
I had this done privately outside of my nhs treatment because of the waiting list times in my area. I feel like it was about £300/400.
I think if you search for private practitioners near you it should come up if that is an option.
Good luck x
As Twiglet2 we also had HyCoSy before we were referred to a fertility clinic, so it was early on. I can’t quite remember, but I think our GP referred us to gynaecology at the hospital and they did this test as part of investigations before we were referred to see if we could get funding.
I wish you all the best 🧡
I had one booked and paid for in 2021 but then I got a positive test so it wasn't needed that time round, I'm just feeling anxious and paranoid because of my age and the time it took previously, along with a couple of stories from friends about trying for ages and then it turning out they had blocked tubes. If only there was an easier way to check all these things!
Maybe ask you GP - ask waiting times etc. as part of weighing up your options. Then you might just have to ask a fertility clinic or try some private options perhaps - I don’t know how you go about this I am afraid. Hopefully some advice given earlier will help! Oh I know how you feel. I just turned 39 and we are hoping for another little one. But we are unexplained infertility, so needed ivf for our first! But so so grateful we even got there! So no idea if this will work, but I feel I got to hope and try!
I hope you get your scan sorted so at least you can settle your mind with that! And I do hope you get your dream one day soon! 🤞🧡
you can and definitely should have your tubes checked. I never had it recommended to me, and did it only after multiple rounds of IVF. I also heard it’s extremely uncomfortable procedure, so I actually had it done while I was under anesthesia for ovarian PRP. They discovered 1 blocked tube which also lead to a discovery of mild endometriosis! I went from unexplained infertility to having an immediate answer. I say the more you know, the better. Best of luck to you x
hello, I was always told with secondary infertility you are limited to what you can get with the NHS. I am in south east and it took two years before I was referred to a gynaecologist on NHS who did a hysteroscopy and HSG. my GP also did all bloods. I think its different where you are in the country, but I found I had to push for what I wanted. they cant treat the infertility, but they can do the diagnostics. good luck x
Thank you, I had assumed I wouldn't be able to get any help at all through the NHS so I'll definitely look into whether getting tests done through them is a possibility.
Yes, I thought the same too. and its very upsetting , but you have to advocate for yourself. If it helps, I rang the local IVF clinic and asked them what tests they would need if I was to have treatment with them, then I rang my GP and said I need x y z , they also did a pelvic scan and sperm analysis.
