Being 44, I recently had a mammogram which showed a nodule in my left breast. The scan along with several other tests was a prerequisite for donor egg IVF treatment in Spain after 3 failed IVFs from my own eggs here in the UK.
After being referred to one stop breast clinic by my GP, an ultrasound and biopsy was performed which confirmed a benign fibroadenoma. According to breast consultant it neither requires any treatment nor a follow-up and is completely okay to carry on with IVF. Despite his approval I’m still a little sceptical because of all the hormones that needs to be administered and also the natural hormones the body would produce if god willing I fall pregnant.
Was wondering if anyone of you wonderful ladies have had such an experience. Your thoughts & words would be highly appreciated.
Thanks

Hi. They usually see if they are hormone based and oestrogen receptive. If it is , then “ it may need to be left. I feel whatever it is and get it treated. Good luck. Diane
Hi, I had the exactly the same thing a biopsy on a benign fibroadenoma. I've read that estrogen supplementation and pregnancy can cause them to grow in size, but in general fibroadenoma aren't thought to turn cancerous or increase the risk of cancer specifically. Obviously it's personal choice what you do with your treatment, it was quite confronting for me to have to have a biopsy (a little scary thinking what if), so I understand now worrying if things will increase your overall risk. xx
Couldn’t agree more! Ultrasound and biopsy left me in pits. Mine is completely benign & my breast consultant has given a nod of approval to IVF. Since FA has a hormonal etiology henceforth the concern. Anyways thanks a lot for taking out time to reply. Means a lot. 🙏🏻
I have a benign fibroadenoma. I discovered it and checked it out about 7 years before I started ivf. During my treatments, 2,5 years into ivf I was asked to have a mammogram and ultrasound by my clinic abroad and the fibroadenoma is still there and unchanged, same size.
I've had a fibroadenoma for around 4 years. I've had 2 rounds of IVF, 4 transfers (3 were bfp, but unfortunately none of them stuck) and nothing changed as far as I'm aware. I wasn't checking though, and I haven't even mentioned to my clinic that I have it as I was told when they discovered it that it was completely benign and there's no chance of it turning cancerous.
I honestly haven't really thought about the fibroadenoma since they told me it was benign. It's just there and doesn't cause me any issues
Thank you so much. Mine too is completely benign hence the consultant didn’t bother any follow up or removal. Glad to hear it didn’t cause any trouble whilst your treatment. Surely giving me a hope to continue with yet another round.
