Currently in an anxious wait following egg collection on Friday. I had 11 eggs in total, 9 were mature, and 3 fertilised using ICSI and AOA.
I’ve not heard anything from the clinic, and think I should get an update tomorrow. If all of the embryos had stopped developing, do you think they would have contacted me? Or is it standard to wait until day 4 before calling regardless of the outcome ?
I think frequency of updates varies a lot from clinic to clinic. Ours told us from the get-go that we'd hear on days 1, 3 and 5 (and the 6 and 7 as we were growing to blastocyst for PGT-A/freeze all). This is based on the most common timeframes for hitting certain developmental milestones.
Again, I think it varies clinic to clinic, but ours gave the max time possible to each embryo as they don't all develop on the same timescale. So, they updated us later in the afternoon, so that the maximum growth had happened.
I'd also say that clinics do understand this time is stressful, so you're unlikely to upset anyone if you ask when you'll next be updated or whether someone from embryology can give you an update sooner.
Thanks for you encouragement. I hope so. Last cycle we only had 2 fertilised eggs from 18, so I was quite distressed. They called every day between collection and transfer. So, I assume on this occasion, no news is good news.. very nervous about the call tomorrow though 😬
Just a little update for you - you were right, received the news today that all 3 made it to day 4 and are ‘good’ quality. So, hopefully have one or two to choose from tomorrow for transfer! 🙏🏻
I've seen so much from this forum that literally every cycle is different. I kind of thought there would be less variation than there is. It's hard to believe that when you only have your own experience to go on, but it does seem to be quite a range of numbers that people get in different cycles, and definitely far from always decreasing.
