FET Supplements

Hi all, this is my first post to this forum. Our first fresh transfer failed today (OTD). We now will move onto our frozen embryo which I want to prepare for as I’ve read you should be on most vitamins for 3 months prior.

Can anyone please share what vitamins/supplements they took before their FET which was a success and at what points these were taken?

Thank you!

So the 3 months thing is more relevant for fresh cycles as it takes 3 months to produce eggs and for the supplement to benefit them.

For my FET I started L-Arginine 6g and vitamin E 600mg. I'm having my transfer next week so don't have a success story as such but those two supplements helped with my lining thickness.

Thank you. I’ve ordered these supplements today although I’ve not been told I have any issues with my lining but thought it couldn’t hurt.

Is your FET medicated?

Yes it is indeed. xx

you dont need 3 months prep for a FET as your embryo is already made (the 3 months is to improve egg quality which doesn’t matter now as your eggs have been collected) all you need is vitimins D and folic acid or you can take a prenatal vitamin that has both in it if easier for you. Good luck! Xx

Kerry1487 in reply toTwiglet2

Thank you. I put so much prep into the egg quality stage that I now don’t have a clue what I need to aid implantation. Hopefully the next one sticks xx

If I’m honest I truly believe you’ve done all you can and if it’s gonna stick it’s gonna stick now 🤗 your progesterone levels are important though so make sure you are comfortable with how your clinic are ensuring those are optimum xx

Kerry1487 in reply toTwiglet2

I had my progesterone checked on day of my fresh transfer and results were fine but I had brown discharge two days before OTD and I usually get this before my period so I wasn’t hopeful x

Twiglet2 profile image
Twiglet2 in reply toKerry1487

Yeah I would defo ask about adding in the lubion then too 🤗 xx

Kerry1487 profile image
Kerry1487 in reply toTwiglet2

Do you know if this is available on NHS? We are NHS funded and I’ve heard they won’t prescribe this therefore you would need to pay if needed xx

Twiglet2 profile image
Twiglet2 in reply toKerry1487

It is available but you do have to push for it, I’m now self funding in the same nhs clinic I had my original treatment in And it’s costs about £100 but people defo get it on the nhs xx

Kerry1487 profile image
Kerry1487 in reply toTwiglet2

How will I know if I need it? I’ve been tested for progesterone and they said it was fine xx

Twiglet2 profile image
Twiglet2 in reply toKerry1487

The fact you bled before test day is what my clinic took as evidence I needed it. Progesterone can fluctuate even throughout the day as well as day to day so they said not much point testing it as that only gives a moment in time and you can’t have ‘too much’ so we’ve added in the lubion and I no longer bleed before test day and I’ve had quite a few embryos implant since starting it too (currently 5 weeks hoping this one sticks this time!)! Xx

Kerry1487 in reply toTwiglet2

I was asked if I was having a day 5 test as well but they said this wasn’t needn’t. I’ll query the lubion with them for my next one. The problem is I only meet nurses, we’ve never met with a doctor or consultant to discuss our protocol or fertility issues.

Good luck in your pregnancy xx

Phone up and ask for a review consultation ours is usually via zoom or ask the nurses to ask the consultant for you as you should be getting some sort of cont at with the consultant at some stage 😢 although ours is very limited I have defo spoken with them even for a 5 mins between cycles. I don’t really talk to them for a FET just egg collection protocols and after misscariages but I have done once or twice xx

I’ll hopefully get to speak to one now we’ve been through a failed transfer. It’s strange how different the clinics vary xx

Hi! Before my successful FET I took Vitamin D (spray), Vitamin C, Zinc, Folic Acid and probiotics both oral and vaginal (Biogaia and Canesflor). Very best of luck!

Thank you. I’ve been taking Vitamin D and just noticed the same dosage is in my prenatal from Zita West. At least that’s one less tablet I have to take.

Make sure your clinic tests progesterone levels before transfer as they may need to add more in to your protocol.

I've had two successful FETs with endometriosis so I just tried to focus on a healthy diet/no alcohol/caffeine during this time. Beetroot juice and pomegranate juice are meant to aid blood flow to lining. I was also on aspirin and heparin both times I had success.

I just took a standard supplements - procieve and Optibac pregnancy probiotics.

Good luck!

Thank you. At the time of my fresh I had a suspected polyp but they weren’t sure so advised me to return a lower grade embryo to see if it worked.

This is what I’m currently taking and will ask when I need to start the probiotic pessaries again for the FET.

Omega 3 fish oil 1000mg

Aspirin 75mg

Zita West Prenatal includes 1000iu Vit D3

Vitamin C 1000mg

Bio Me Femme V Probiotics

Vitamin E

L’arginine 1000mg

My first FET worked and I did exactly the same in terms of diet and supplements, and aspirin, the next one and it was a BFN. So whilst I don't think any of it hurt it didn't guarantee success and so much of it is down to how your body reacts to the meds (if a medicated FET), timing and the embryo. I then got pregnant naturally on possibly the worst combination I've managed over the last few years - when I was drinking, travelling for work, doing very long hours, stressed starting a new job... So don't do anything you'll beat yourself over but don't feel you have to be dogmatic as you've done the work already. Things like folate/folic acid, vit C, vit D and omegas are good generally plus another vote for pomegranate and beetroot juice as they were just nice to have and made me feel good 😀

Thank you. During stims and including the wait I drank Pom juice and then after transfer made a smoothie of beetroot, watermelon and ginger. I literally threw everything I could at it and nothing. We’ve never seen a positive test, I was really hoping to see the word pregnant.

In my experience, I believe the environment inside your uterus matters the most for your embryo to implant and grow. Like others mentioned since the embryo is already made, there are certain things that you can do. When my first FET failed, my doc wanted me to for the second immediately, but no I did my research, I did an antibody test and I found I had mild aps, poor iron levels and deficient in vit d. I told my gynaec I would like to supplement of all of that, take time for my inflammation to go low with aspirin low dose etc. It was me, my doctor's never told me to go for anything. So I suggest you to study and understand what was the reason for failure. Most of the miscarriages are due to chromosomes, but you also need a good environment inside to succeed. there is also someother micorobiome tests like the fertilysis tests. Which can help you get some insights on your micorobiome in uterus, few also do some endometrial receptivity tests, intralipid infusions etc to make the implantation successful. Trust your gut if you want to do more tests (I know it creates more anxiety but better than losing an embryo) just go for it. As far as supplements are concerned see them as supplements only, healthy balanced diet, exercise, meditations, positive affirmations, grounding, going out in sun, fibre intake all these does the magic than supps. I wish you all the best for your 2nd one. Good luck all positivity to you 😘🤗Vit C,D, omega369, folate, magnesium,DHA.

Thank you. I’m waiting for my follow up appointment where I will be asking what else can be done as I know they’ve done bloods but they haven’t discussed results with us and I think it’s crucially that any deficiencies are being checked. It feels a lot of the time I’m having to advocate for myself when I am not a fertility specialist.

before my successful transfer, after failed and miscarriages, I took vitamin D (I paid to have my levels checked and they were extremely low) I was taking 4000 initally until I retested and then dropped to 1000. I have omega 3, iron and ginseng extract.. I started taking these after seeing someone who specialised in Chinese medicine, he told me this combination would help increase blood flow to my uterus and increase my chances of successful implantation. The person I saw has books available, if you’re interested I can share his name.. I followed his guidance to a T.. not sure it was all down to that but it really gave me something to focus on at a time when I was overthinking everything 🫣

Thank you. If you wouldn’t mind sharing his details, I can look into. I’ve been going to acupuncture through egg collection and transfer and it’s something I’ll keep doing as it’s helped me relax which is much needed. My prenatal included 1000 in Vitamin D. I know I have a deficiency because I was told this before TTC but I’ve not had it rechecked so I’ll add that to my list.

I would definitely get it re-checked, especially as we’ve not had the most amazing summer.

Put this into Amazon: My Fertility Guide: How To Get Pregnant Naturally, by Dr Attilio D’Alberto.

Mine wasn’t natural, but I followed all the dietary advice aswell as his guidance on wearing cosmetics, lifestyle and vitamins etc.

I’m sure it wasn’t solely down to this but after 9 weeks of following it so specifically, when I had my lining checked for this transfer it was double what it was for my previous transfer and my hormone levels were significantly higher.

I am now following his pregnancy book as I’m superstitious and don’t want to change the path I’m on.
