Chronic endometritis and polypoid endometrium

Hi all, I'm seeking some advice on case anyone has experienced something similar. I'm very confused and unsure on what to do. During my stimulation, my consultant noticed my endometrium appeared to be polypoid and proposed a histeroscopy the cycle after egg retrieval, during the histeroscopy they did a biopsy of the endometrium that indicated I was suffering chronic endometritis. The gyn that did the procedure (not my consultant) said that he had removed two micro polyps during the procedure for biopsy which I saw with the camera. I got antibiotics treatment and the plan was to finish the treatment this cycle and do a checkup at the beginning of next cycle before prepping for the FET. Yesterday I had a scan at another clinic due to some discomfort during the weekend (booked private as we were travelling and I didn't want to wait) and the doctor said I still had a polyp and that it was bigger, by no means micro, and that I should have had a endometrial scratch as the tissue still looks polypoid.

Has anyone experienced something similar? If I have next cycle an endometrial scratch, do I need to go into another course of antibiotics for CE?

I still have the appointment with my consultant at the end of the month, but she never mentioned anything about the scratch and I'm concerned the clinic doesn't do that procedure, and if I insist it could delay further the FET.

Any advice or experiences will be welcomed. This forum has been so useful navigating the woes of IVF since last year, I thought maybe someone had gone through something similar.

Hello lovely,

I'm not too sure about your question - maybe go back to your clinic and check what they propose?

How would a scratch help with the endo?

Hi Millbanks, the second doctor said that the scratch would remove all the endometrium linning and "force" it to create a healthy new fresh layer. Due to the endometritis it seems irregular and too thick in some areas, which I thought would have improved as I was almost done with the antibiotics treatment.I've been trying to speak with my clinic but they are dismissing that option as unnecessary saying that I could do it if it makes me feel more comfortable - so I'm not sure whether is beneficial or not. If I go ahead I'll have to delay my FET another month.

My DH thinks I should do it, but after all the procedures I've gone through in the last 3months, I'm not keen on going through more unnecessary and expensive procedures just because. Not sure if I make sense? I'm quite overwhelmed and I need a sounding board 🙂

I totally get that feeling of being overwhelmed.

I just had 2 failed FETs and my consultant suggested a repeat ERA before my next transfer and I asked her why (does the window of implantation change) and she was like - there's no evidence to suggest so... so I think she was basically just running through the options that they offer rather than tailoring it to me specifically - it was pretty annoying tbh.

So I would stick to your gut feeling - if you don't want to go through more - don't do it.

Thank you Millbanks!! So sorry to hear of your failed FETs... I'm still waiting to go through the first one, and tired of having it postponed. It's so frustrating this whole process and noone really knows what makes it a success or doesn't - we need to keep our hopes and focus on the end goal... I'm sending you lots of baby dust, I hope the next transfer is the one! 🙂🤞

God yes it's so frustrating - so many delays and setbacks - you just aren't prepared for it all!

We started just before Covid and it was a complete nightmare when everything closed and got delayed.

Thankfully we were very lucky to have a successful cycle in 2021 (6th FET) and have a little boy from that.

Everything crossed for you xx

As the 1st post says best go back to your own clinic and ask them your questions They know your history - blood results etc Should also be able to advise you the best way forward regarding treatment

Take care
