Hi Currently on my 1st ever ivf cycle, does anybody have any experience with being unable to transfer at the end of a cycle due to progesterone levels being too high? Have been advised to freeze embryos. Really disappointing as I was all prepared and excited for transfer but understand to give it the best shot.

Progesterone too high for fresh transfer?
Hi Suki 👋
I wasn't told my progesterone was too high but my 1st failed due to too much of it so I'm glad for you that your clinic is being cautious very good of them.
All the best x
Yeah this happened to me. Depending on your circumstances the wait might not be too long. My high progesterone was because of the IVF meds and I was allowed to go in the cycle of my withdrawal bleed after egg retrieval. Just got my smiley face today so I'll be booked in for embryo transfer six days from now I think.
what is considered too high?
It wasn’t progesterone specifically but my bloods weren’t “good enough” during my fresh transfer cycle so it was cancelled and I went for a frozen transfer. Didn’t work and if I get to another transfer I’d probably be keen to try for a natural again if possible. Nicer to have less meds but also a little more unpredictable which can be hard! I understand your disappointment and hope you get a plan for the next cycle soon at least x
Hiya thank you for your kind words. Can I ask what your frozen transfer protocol was? My menstrual cycle is a little unpredictable and very short so it's harder to plan, and I'm using a clinic in Greece so I think it will be medicated. Should know more about the plan this week so fingers crossed. Sending all the positive thoughts your way for however your next cycle goes! X
yes makes sense if your cycle is already unpredictable. I was on progynova oestrogen for 2 weeks. I can’t remember exactly but I started the progesterone suppositories in the second week, around 4-5 days before the transfer then continued through the 2WW. It’s not too bad and good to be able to plan the dates, I just got quite a bit of nausea from the oestrogen but it was manageable. Good luck and wishing you the best cycle possible x
yes this happened with my in my both ivf icsi cycle. I couldn’t do fresh transfer
Very common. My first transfer failed because of this. Honestly your clinic sounds great for checking! It's awful knowing a potentially good embryo was wasted due to this, so I'm glad your clinic is being cautious! X
hi, this happened to me, the doctor saying that high progesterone on the day of trigger means the lining is already compacted and too difficult for the embryo to implant.
I waited two bleeds and then went for a natural FET. Ultimately not successful but at least I think it had a better chance by waiting. It was stressful as we hadn’t planned for the longer amount of time and extra cost of a frozen cycle, (and were anxious for a fresh transfer as it was the our only embryo) but that’s how things go sometimes!
Wishing you best of luck and hoping for a good outcome
