Blocked fallopian tubes.

Hi I'm a 31 year old woman with no children. I was just wanting to share my story in the hope of hearing some success stories from others. Yesterday I had an ovarian cyst removed and a HSG test to see if my fallopian tubes were ok due to not being able to get pregnant for several years. I was told 1 tube was blocked beyond repair and the other was partially blocked and swollen, the dye did pass through this tube a little bit. My surgeon said if I was to get pregnant from the partially blocked tube it will probably be an ectopic pregnancy. She said my only chance is through IVF... I'm unable to have IVF for free due to my partner already having a child from a previous relationship, and I'm stuck now because I can't afford IVF. So it's like I've got to chose between my partner and having a child. Has anyone had IVF and can you tell me what to expect and how many times it took to get pregnant. I'm desperate.

Sorry to hear this and i hope you do have a child one day. My story is a little bit similar. I was trying for 3 years with no joy and finally went to see the doctors. I had a hsg that showed both of my tubes were swollen and had fluid in them. I had surgery to drain the fluid but went straight to ivf. The emotional side of the process is more harder than actually going through it of you know what i mean. To be honest the actual process of medication, scans up until embryo transfer was pretty straight forward.

Im 32 and will have another cycle too as my first didnt work and will have to clip one of my tubes as the fluid came back.

I can only suggest you make the right decision for you, as of course you love your partner and its so unfair that you wont get any free cycles on nhs. Perhaps saving up for a while or maybe someone in family could help. I can only say do whats best for you.

And good luck on your journey youve come to the right place.

X

Hi 👋 Welcome to the forum. I’m sorry to hear you won’t qualify for funding because of your partner already being a parent but before you make any decisions it’s worth bearing in mind that most ccgs wouldn’t give funding if you’re going it alone either. Ivf is very costly but perhaps you and your partner could look into saving and doing a cycle abroad as it’s around half the price compared to the uk.

Ivf is rarely successful on the first round and more often than not will be used as a marker for further rounds of ivf, they’ll be able to adjust treatment accordingly depending on how you respond to the first cycle. Having said that, there are women on here who’ve had success on their first rounds, it’s just an exception not a majority. However if you get enough embryos left over from a first round you’re chance of conceiving is better. For example I had one round which was negative but I had 4 frozen embryos left. We used two in two separate frozen cycles and got pregnant both times but sadly they resulted in miscarriages. We are doing another frozen transfer next month.

Whatever you decide, good luck in your journey xx

Hi Mandi . Just read your post and almost cried. After seeing your desire for the child. I know you are having a hard time. It's difficult to choose between two most loved things. You are stuck between a difficult choice. I dont think it would be easy for any woman to choose between her life partner and her dreams. May I suggest you about surrogacy? Search for it and it may help you. I will be praying for you.

Thank you Sophians. I'm heartbroken. But I've done a little bit of research and found that Hungary do IVF for around £1,500 a cycle. Which is more affordable for us.

I'm going to see my fertility doctor as soon as I've recovered from my keyhole surgery & I'll see what my options are... I'm going to remain hopeful. I just really would love a family of my own, just 1 child will do, I'm not greedy. I'm an only child and would love to give my father a grandchild. At the moment I feel less of a woman, I don't feel like I have a purpose right now, I'm very upset & desperate. I need to relax and think positive but it's so hard.

I'm lucky to have a very supportive boyfriend who wants this just as much as I do.

Thanks for reading :)

Hi Mandi, I feel awful for you.

I completely understand what you mean about feeling less of a woman & that you don't feel like you have a purpose, I feel exactly the same.

I have just turned 32 & have been trying to conceive for 5.5 years now.

I'm at the stage where I'm waiting for my next cycle before having the HSG test which I'm not looking forward to as it sounds painful?

Definitely try to do more research on the IVF Clinic you've found in Hungary.

I so hope that you can save up & at least have the chance to try IVF.

Thank you for your advice and for sharing your struggles... I had the HSG test when I was asleep due to already having my cyst removed.. so I havnt felt any pain from it.. but I know a lot of people who have had a successful pregnancy after having the HSG test as it flushes your tubes.. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. I hope your dream of becoming a mother becomes a reality.

For now I'm focusing on recovering and I'm going to see what my fertility doctor suggests.

Thought about egg donation- I say this because it’s something I’m considering. You get a free round of ivf. My endometriosis has made my tubes slow to spill and mine too were swollen and twisted, I’m pretty much in the same situation apart from the fact I had one child naturally already with my husband. X

That is something to look in to. Thank you for sharing, I wasn't aware of this. :)

Why don't you try going abroad where ivf is much cheaper?

Because of you I did research and I've found it cheaper in Hungary. Thank you, I never thought because my mind was all over the place.

Hi hun welcome you have come to the right place. Sorry to hear about struggles but I agree with everyone else look into going a broad or saving. My endometriosis is really bad n I was told i could only get pregnant through IVF 1st one failed but I’m pregnant now with our frozen cycle. I didn’t think it was all that bad or painful I just hated injections so I made my mum do mine while I looked away. If I can go through this I know anyone can. Good luck my sisters x

Congratulations on your pregnancy. I'm so happy for you.

But why do you have to inject your self? Xx

Many thanks hun.

It was part of the medication as you need to inject yourself to stimulate the ovaries to make multiple follicles and eggs. Defo have a chat with your specialist. The injections wasn’t painful you get use to it but I got my mum to do mine as I hate needles. Do you know if you will be going for a fresh or frozen cycle?

You could try having it in a different country. In Cambodia they offer 3 cycles for about £3,500.
