Alcohol IVF

I am looking for advice/opinions please.

My wife (42 years old) and I are about to undergo our first, and possibly only, course of IVF. We have had preliminary appointments with our clinic and have been advised our treatment should commence between May and June 2024.

Neither my wife or I smoke or take drugs (my wife takes prescription meds for both depression and an under active thyroid). Neither of us are big drinkers normally and have not consumed alcohol in the past 2 months. We both eat well, exercise regularly and have been taking fertility supplements (Naitre).

I am attending a 40th birthday event in 2 weeks and I am considering the possibility of drinking alcohol. In your opinion, if I was to allow myself to drink alcohol on this one occasion, would this potentially have a detrimental affect on conception?

I really don’t think it will have any impact. We’re all entitled to treats every now and again. Enjoy yourself!

No - absolutely not. It’s not like you are drinking to excess daily, enjoy the party !

Your IVF treatments start in May-June. Drinking minimal alcoholic beverages in 2 weeks will most probably have no effect on your treatments. Enjoy! xx

Mr Dr told me to have 1 glass of wine the night before transfer to relax! 😊

nope, try not to go completely wild I guess if it’s going to cause you regret but absolutely not an issue there’s still months u tik treatment and it’s only one night. Enjoy yourself 🙌🏼

hi, as it happens, sperm is created 3 months before it’s ready so it’s actually what you were doing 3 months ago for the sperm today. So it depends when your ivf takes place but alcohol definitely can have an effect on the quality of sperm. But I would say one drink would not

A huge binge within the 3 months before a cycle “might” have an impact but if it’s a drink or two and nothing more then unlikely! We both try to clean up our act in the 3 months before a cycle, helps to feel no regrets and you’ve done everything especially if it’s likely to be your only round. Maintaining monk living when you do rounds and rounds of treatment is completely unrealistic and one has to have some treats in life.

You might want to listen to the Testhim podcast - my husband found it so useful. There’s not a lot out there for guys going through treatment.
