Hello, It's been 3 years since I last posted on here. My wife (Im a guy) are going through our third round of IVF - this is our first frozen cycle. It's been a long journey to get where we are and have been fortunate enough to have a 2 year old daughter through natural pregnancy (wife fell pregnant inbetween cycles).
My wife is currently 6 wks pregnant and we have a scan on Thursday. Over the last few days she has been experiencing lower tummy and back pains and explains symptoms like a period pain. The symptoms last a while then come and go. My wife is very upset and believes she is miscarrying - we have had 2 miscarriages in past.
Should we be worried about these symptoms or could they be the muscles and ligaments stretching to prepare for the journey ahead?
Any thoughts, experiences are welcomed.
Thank you.

Hey, I understand it's really common to have cramps like period pains during early pregnancy so there's every chance everything is fine. And I believe every pregnancy is different so even if your wife didn't have cramps with her previous successful pregnancy, it doesn't necessarily mean anything is wrong this time. Perhaps a call to your clinic tomorrow might put her mind at ease? Wishing you both the best of luck xx
Hey, Thank you for your kind message. Im keeping my fingers crossed that all is ok. It's just hard to stay positive sometime. Yes will be calling the clinic tomorrow to see what they say .
Oh this journey is always so full of worry! I am sorry you have experienced previous loss!
I don’t have a lot of advice as only had one successful pregnancy and never fallen pregnant before or since. We are so lucky to have our little one. So I have nothing to compare it to, but I experienced a lot of lower abdominal pains, cramps and shooting type pains, especially at the beginning. We also had a small bleed around 18 weeks, was checked out, but all was good! And apparently all this was normal - for my pregnancy because he is here and well!
I would also advise to contact clinic, so hopefully you have got hold of them today for some advice! As you never know I suppose, so always good to mention and let them guide you! I hope all is well and hopefully both little one and your wife is ok! All the best for your scan! 🧡
Hi Thank you for message. Our IVF clinic offered us a scan today and it was good news! We couldn't believe it. My wife was so sure and I suppose I was too, that we were going to miscarry because of past experiences. We saw the heartbeat which was re-assuring.
We have to have another scan on Friday though as there is what may a largish cist in my wife's overy which may be the reason for the discomfort and pain. They ruled out an ectopic embryo which is good.
Going back to the little one that is progressing well apparently it's in the right place and it's the right size for now. Yey! We are officially 6wks and 3 days. Now got to get to the next milestone.....
oh this is good news! That all is in correct place and developing as it should! So good your clinic could offer you an earlier scan to keep an eye and it will help both your anxieties at this time! It is stressful enough as it is, if you have had previous loss.. I can only imagine those thoughts can be immense and of course you will always think the worst until proven otherwise! So glad you got that scan! Beautiful to see the heartbeat! Wishing you all the best for the rest of your pregnancy and hopefully that cyst won’t cause too much pain!
Just saw your update, RisingStar39, such great news! Congratulations and here's to a smooth pregnancy from here onwards! I've been very fortunate to conceive in the past, almost every time I would experience some degree of cramping and shooting pains and lower back pain not dissimilar to when I get my period, these first few weeks are so nerve-wrecking! Good luck for your scan on Friday!
Hey, just saw this update and wanted to say how pleased I am for you wishing you all the best for the rest of your journey - hopefully no more scares along the way xx
