FET implantation and then nothing?

Hello,

I am just going through the second week of waiting following FET. I could swear that the embryo had implanted as I started to experience all the right symptoms in the first two/three days. Then they started disappearing. Now I feel like I am just waiting for the inevitable to happen at the end of the week and prolonging it unnecessarily by all the medication. Has anyone experienced anything similar and what was the outcome for you?

One thing I would say is that there are no 'right' symptoms to experience. Symptoms can vary from person to person, and even from pregnancy to pregnancy. I know it's hard but try not to read too much into it. Your body is basically a simmering soup of hormones right now with the meds and there will be fluctuations. I've heard a lot of stories of people having symptoms from their progesterone which settle as the TWW progresses. They think they're out and then get surprised with a positive result. You never know until you test.

Thanks for the kind words of encouragement neonpg ! I really appreciate it, although it’s hard to stay positive. One of the tell-tale signs I’ve had to previously indicate that my body is producing some HCG has been sore, heavy, breasts. The couple of times that’s disappeared, the end results have not been good. I’ll keep taking my medication, but in my heart of hearts I expect a BFN or my bleed to start soon. 😔

The symptoms don't really mean much that early and it's mostly the meds, plus each transfer and pregnancy can be completely different - I've had strong 'pregnancy' symptoms very early and although it was a BFP it turned out never to have really got going, then spotting and bleeding on successes and on early losses, and very little by way of typical pregnancy symptoms on a successful IVF and current natural pregnancy until at least 5 or 6 weeks when they became unmistakable. But I'm not sure even then I had all the classic symptoms and they've been very different each time too - some friends have never had any symptoms at all except a growing bump! If you want a definite answer now you can get HCGs done, privately or possibly via your GP. But if you're waiting until OTD I wouldn't think too much about the symptoms or lack of at this stage.

Everyone is different - some have no symptoms and others feel them coming and going No right or wrong answer Just keep looking after yourself - eat well ,drink plenty of fluids and rest when you can Take any meds you have been given as directed

Good luck

I think the second week of the 2WW is awful! Your mind and body plays tricks on you. I have heard lots of different stories about people who had symptoms and who didn’t. Both of which were successful. Try and keep your mind busy and I have everything crossed for you! Xx

When is your testing day? I'm in the exact same situation, had symptoms and felt really positive and now nothing so my mind is spinning. I'm 8dp5dt.

I am also at my 8dp5dt. Test day is Sunday. 😣

Yes I did! I've had six embryos transferred... which were wasted because I didn't realise I had an auto immune issue... My suggestion is to get your NK cells checked... Listen to your body! I knew my embryos were implanting too and then they got shut down by my immune system...

The IVF consultants will likely say it's symptoms from the drugs but I would just hate for anyone to end up like me... i'm 42 now and all my good embryos/eggs were wasted while I was finding out very very slowly and expensively that there was something 'wrong'... I think I knew mine were implanting - I got implantation cramps, on one of them (the pgta screened one) I also got morning sickness like when I was pregnant with my son or my miscarriage which ended after three months - that's the only other time I was getting strong waves of nausea like that... I know the progesterone can cause nausea but I logged everything through all my cycles and it was different on the PGTA screened embryo so I'm sure that one would have been born if it wasn't for my immune system....

Also got implantation cramps and 'bubbles' in my womb... this only happens when I'm pregnant... my symptoms also only lasted a few days and then died off...

Good luck x

Thank you & I’m sorry to hear about the long and painful journey you’ve been on. I think the investigative process of many clinics in the UK seems to be ‘trial and error’ without too much thought about the underlying cause. Thankfully, I was advised very early on by my gynaecologist back home to test for a number of things, among which NK cells.

in that case perhaps you are worrying unnecessarily! try to stay calm - apparently it's common for symptoms to come and go x

Thanks everyone for the encouraging comments. However, the lack of symptoms for me meant that I started to get my bleed tonight…4 days before I could even test. 😔 Although that’s happened 3/4 transfers in the last year…can’t even seem to get through the first hurdle. Good luck to everyone else x

I'm sorry. When this happened on my second transfer my consultant said that you shouldn't bleed or spot (especially before OTD) if the progesterone was working. It may not help for this transfer or might be unrelated, but has your clinic been monitoring your progesterone? What form and dose are you on? After two early losses my clinic changed from cyclogest only to utrogestan and two lubion a day and the next transfer was successful. It doesn't sort everything as I also had a PUL and a BFN last year on these, but I didn't spot or bleed at all, and it's just something to rule out and quite a quick fix. Also, have you been getting HCGs done? Even when ultimately the transfer isn't successful at least these tell you if there's been implantation and any development, which can be a useful extra diagnostic of what's going on. Maybe all this is something to think about down the line. Also I did bleed and spot on my two successful pregnancies (when not on progesterone) and everything was ok, so it's not always definitive x

Ive_K in reply toFruitandflowers

Yeah. I am on Lubion and Cyclogest 3x day. When this happened to me on day 7 post fresh embryo transfer last year, I asked him whether it was because progesterone was low or not being absorbed wel. He simply said that I bled because there was no implantation! Of course, there’s never been any monitoring during the TWW.

Fruitandflowers profile image
Fruitandflowers in reply toIve_K

Not sure that's correct for everyone as I had bleeding and spotting three times on BFPs (two of which were successful), and getting the progesterone right seemed to stop it. But I've been down this low levels and poor absorption rabbit hole too, and I didn't get a satisfactory answer. There is evidence that you can have high progesterone blood levels but it still not be getting to the right place, hence I asked for utrogestan (vaginal route) as there's a little evidence it gets to where it needs to. I did bleed on cyclogest despite my blood levels being very high and it was a BFP. Conversly, on my BFN last year my levels stubbornly refused to increase at all (even on utrogestan and lubion) and my consultant even called the pharma company to ask what might be going on but they had no answers. I'd be tempted to ask about utrogestan and maybe try it, and if your clinic won't test, to get this and HCGs done by your GP or a private company as then at least you have some more information.

Yeah. Will definitely inquire. I spotted and cramped quite a lot last night and thought might have full bleed this morning. Seems to have stopped for the moment although my hopes for a BFP have gone out of the window regardless.

Fruitandflowers profile image
Fruitandflowers in reply toIve_K

Totally understand. Just I seem to have had every variation and symptom going and there wasn't any pattern with whether it was a BFN or not, or whether it was ultimately successful. All I can say is I definitely thought my period was coming on both my succesful pregnancies (including because of spotting/bleeding and cramps) but at different stages - a couple of days after transfer the first time and the second time when my period would have been due. So that and early losses are why the HCGs - it may not be able to change the outcome but in part it puts me out of my misery and the horrible limbo.

Hello, how are you doing? Hope all is well? Did the bleed stop altogether?

Ive_K profile image
Ive_K in reply toTwinbelgium

Hello, it did and I actually got a BFP!!! So now awaiting my week 7 scan. 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼Comes to show that symptoms (or lack of) can be incredibly misleading. Hopefully that’ll be encouraging to others as I know the TWW can be a stressful time.

So another anxious couple of weeks as last time this happened after my third IUI, it was just an empty sac and then miscarriage. So traumatic experiences all round and I’m trying to take it a step at a time!

Glad to hear it! I’m doing ok, but it continues to be a roller coaster for me riddled with anxiety and symptoms (or lack thereof atm) spotting. 😣 7 week scan is next Friday, so it’ll be another anxious week. 😬

Hi,Just wanted to say that I used to get symptoms that would just stop around day 5. My consultant said it was too early, but I was convinced something was wrong. I found out I had a subseptate uterus and thrombophilia both of which can impact implantation, after fixing these issues and doing a downreg for adenomyosis I had a BFP. Same symptoms, but instead of them disappearing they got stronger and then I started spotting and had cramps. I'm feeding my baby now, so I don't think you're out of the game.

I really hope this is your time. Good luck.

X
